EMC’s Atmos cloud storage platform manages and optimizes external clouds as part of an overall private cloud strategy; the Nasuni Filer is an advanced virtual file server provisioned by the cloud. Combined, the solutions provide users the flexibility to securely store, distribute and retrieve data. Customers avoid storage-related capital outlays, and instead pay a flat monthly fee for the Filer in addition to storage use-based charges.

"Through differentiated, enterprise-ready features such as policy management, security, multi-tenancy, and a self-service management console, EMC Atmos gives service providers a comprehensive foundation for delivering cloud services and enabling their customers to consume cloud storage capacity while achieving the level of service they expect," said Jon Martin, Director of Product Management and Marketing, Cloud Infrastructure Group at EMC. "With the EMC Atmos web services API as the presentation layer, service providers can easily integrate with partners such as Nasuni to simplify file access capabilities in a cloud environment. The combination of EMC’s infrastructure expertise and Nasuni’s encryption capabilities, provide customers with a powerful end-to-end cloud offering."

The EMC Atmos platform has been chosen by service providers and independent software vendors to enable unprecedented flexibility among cloud vendors. It automatically manages the distribution of rich, unstructured information, independent of geographic location. Nasuni-EMC integration lets storage providers further economize cloud storage, and helps customers easily access their files.

"By combining the benefits of EMC Atmos cloud storage with Nasuni’s ability to provide the functionality of a traditional NAS, customers can utilize simple and cost-effective data protection," said Andres Rodriguez, CEO of Nasuni. "The cloud enables customers to expand their existing storage capacity without purchasing additional hardware. They may now enjoy considerable savings as well as increased IT productivity."

The Nasuni Filer simplifies file access, storage, and protection, while eliminating expenses inherent in hardware expansion. Because it provisions storage capacity automatically and delivers local-like performance, it can be used as primary storage instead of – or in combination with – traditional file servers. Features include synchronous snapshots, deduplication, and encryption plus key management for security. Users hesitant to use the cloud for primary storage may still use the Filer for backup.
