Infortrend Technology Inc. announced the addition of six new small-form-factor (SFF) models to its EonStor DS product family.

Featuring a variety of host-connectivity types, these new models offer high performance density and energy efficiency. When compared to Infortrend’s existing SFF models, performance and scalability are increased by as much as 50 percent. When compared to Infortrend’s EonStor DS large-form-factor (LFF) models, power consumption is reduced by 40 percent. The new SFF models are ideally suited to help SMBs increase productivity from their existing budget and space resources.

2.5" disk drives are becoming more prevalent in the enterprise market, and they are expected to gradually overtake 3.5" disk drives. In 2007, Infortrend became the first storage vendor worldwide to launch SFF RAID systems featuring 2.5" disk drives, and the company has been a leader in this market ever since.  The new products announced today represent Infortrend’s continued dedication to this market segment, and push SFF products to higher performance levels.

The new EonStor DS models can house up to twelve 6Gb/s SAS 2.5" hard disk drives in 1U chassis, and come in either dual- or single-controller configurations. To support storage area network (SAN) deployments, users can choose the B12F models for 8Gb/s Fibre Channel (FC) host connectivity or the B12E models for 1GbE iSCSI host connectivity. For direct-attached storage (DAS) environments, the B12S models featuring 6Gb/s SAS host connectivity are the ideal choice. All EonStor DS SFF models can be flexibly connected to both LFF and SFF expansion enclosures.  In an installation of up to 108 drives, users can mix LFF and SFF, SAS and SATA drives, to meet application demands in the most cost-effective way.

The EonStor DS family is designed to provide advanced data protection functionality. Supporting storage-based snapshot and volume copy/mirror, the easy-to-use EonStor DS storage systems help SMBs achieve uncompromised availability for mission-critical applications. Users can create differential and full copies of critical data sets and leverage these to carry out quick-service restarts should the storage be damaged by logical or physical errors.

According to James Hsieh, vice president of global marketing at Infortrend, "The new additions to our EonStor DS family help users increase space and energy efficiency without compromising on performance. Often, SMBs have limited budgets and office space, and our new RAID systems help them to make more efficient use of their resources."
