Coraid Tripled WW Sales Bookings

Since last January

Coraid Inc. has tripled its worldwide sales bookings since raising a $10 million financing and re-launching the company in January of this year.

Coraid attributes the growth to the introduction of its EtherDrive SRX-Series of storage arrays, availability of new high-performance solutions for Windows, Solaris, and Linux environments, and the addition of senior sales and management talent to the team.

The company also launched the Coraid Partner Network, a world-class channel program designed to support business partners delivering Coraid EtherDrive worldwide. The Coraid Partner Network offers IT solution providers with training, support, and expertise to accelerate sales of virtualization and application solutions running on Ethernet SAN.

"Coraid has great momentum, and their Ethernet SAN platform can be highly disruptive to the status quo economics of the storage industry," said George Crump, principle and lead analyst of Storage-Switzerland. "Coraid EtherDrive fulfills all four of the goals of shared storage: reduced costs, reduced complexity, increased performance and increased flexibility. Many storage companies are making similar claims but Coraid backs it up with over 1,200 deployed customers and a measurable price advantage over legacy solutions yet still offering top end performance."

Disruptive Innovation: Redefining Storage Economics
Coraid’s EtherDrive SRX-Series, introduced in March, allows enterprises of all sizes to build a scale-out SAN architecture that is ideally suited to dynamic virtualization and cloud environments. SRX-Series extends the price-performance advantage of EtherDrive over legacy storage solutions, adding support for 10 Gb Ethernet as well as SATA, SAS, and SSD drives in the same chassis. Pricing starts at under $600/TB.

A new report by ESG Lab validates that SRX-Series delivers throughput performance of over 1200 MB/sec at approximately 20% the price of equivalent Fibre Channel solutions. ESG Lab remarked that the EtherDrive platform is ‘shockingly simple’ to manage, particularly in VMware environments, and they were able to configure and deploy the array in less than two minutes from power on.

In Q2, Coraid also shipped new host bus adapters (HBAs) providing up to 20 Gbps Ethernet SAN connectivity for servers running Windows, Solaris, and Linux operating systems, as well as Hyper-V and Xen virtualization solutions.

Customer Momentum
The company added new customers and multiple petabytes of deployed capacity across sectors including government, Fortune 100 enterprises, cloud hosting providers and research universities worldwide.

Key customer trends included:

  • 20 higher education customers announced including MIT, University of Texas and UCLA
  • Strong adoption in virtualization and public cloud hosting environments
  • Design wins in U.S. Department of Defense cloud projects
  • Growing momentum in Tier 1 application environments such as Oracle databases and gene sequencing

Company Growth
Coraid more than doubled its team in the first half of 2010 including the hiring of Alan Beltran as vice president of engineering. Beltran is a seasoned executive with over 17 years of management experience in fast paced startup environments, and he will be responsible for engineering and manufacturing operations at Coraid. Prior to joining the company, Beltran was a vice president at storage security leader Decru, where he was responsible for hardware and software engineering teams, manufacturing and operations, technical support, technical publications, and IT. After the company’s acquisition by NetApp, he continued as a vice president and oversaw the integration of these various departments.

Awards
Coraid has also received industry recognition with its founder and CTO, Brantley Coile, being named a top 25 Storage Superstar by Everything Channel’s CRN. In addition, the company’s EtherDrive SRX3200 was named by eWeek as a top Product to Watch.
