Dr. Alexopoulos is a 29-year veteran in the data storage industry. He started his career, after graduating from Cornell University, in IBM Almaden Research Centre where he spent 14 years in various technical and managerial positions. In the late 90s through to early 2000, as CTO of Maxtor, he set up a 200-man R&D team in Singapore and collaborated with DSI in many hard disk drive related projects.
Prior to joining DSI as Scientific Director in February 2010, Dr. Alexopoulos was the Vice President & GM of Hitachi GST Head Business Group. He has also served as Chairman and CEO for TDK Fujitsu Philippines Corporation, and as a member of DSI’s Scientific Advisory Board from 2003 to January 2010.
As DSI Scientific Director, Dr. Alexopoulos has fostered an integrated approach of all DSI capabilities towards developing data centre centric technology. During the last three months, he has also actively sought collaborative research with other SERC RIs to accelerate the DSI technology development without having to duplicate resources. In addition, Dr. Alexopoulos has secured a number of companies to work with DSI to develop relevant technologies needed for future data centers.
Dr. Alexopoulos takes over from Professor Chong Tow Chong who has served as Executive Director since 1998.
