German City of Ettlingen Has Chosen Vizioncore
Deploying vRanger Pro and vReplicator
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 30, 2010 at 3:05 pmVizioncore Inc., in virtualization data protection and management solutions and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quest Software, Inc., announced that Ettlingen, a city in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, has chosen Vizioncore vRanger Pro and Vizioncore vReplicator to manage backup, restore and server replication of its virtual IT infrastructure. The new technologies will augment disaster recovery initiatives and help simplify administrative complexity for the city.
The Department of Information and Communication (IuK) forms part of the administrative wing of Ettlingen. As an increasing number of servers were consolidated on to a new virtualized IT infrastructure at the IuK, it became clear that a solution was required that could provide simple, reliable and affordable backup and restore.
The head of ICT at IuK, Andreas Kraut, chose Vizioncore vRanger Pro, pre-installed on Dell PowerEdge 2950tm servers with Windows Server 2008 R2tm, along with Vizioncore vReplicator to run on virtualized Windows XP tm machines. Following the Vizioncore rollout, all data held by the IuK is now stored across 45 virtualized servers and can be administered centrally using vRanger Pro. This has significantly improved performance levels and reduced unnecessary workloads.
“Our virtual environment was starting to become very complex, so with cost reduction and reliability as primary targets, we started looking for a solution that could not only handle our daily data backup routine, but also provide a very smooth restore process,” explained Kraut. “We could not afford to have the city’s entire administration process screeching to a halt every time there was a problem, as this would effectively render our 400 employees unable to do their jobs. The vRanger Pro backup and restore solution from Vizioncore offered us a hassle-free solution to the problem.”
In addition to the backup and restore efficiencies, vReplicator provided swift virtual machine replication and has enabled the IuK to meet recovery time objectives while keeping costs at a minimum.
“Managing administrative data for an entire city requires an incredibly high degree of reliability, and the City of Ettlingen has been a leader in adopting virtualization technologies to ensure that reliability,” said Roger Baskerville, vice president EMEA, Vizioncore. “As education of the benefits of virtualization spreads, many are starting to understand that effective management of virtualized infrastructure is crucial if cost and efficiency goals are to be fully realized. Vizioncore now has over 20,000 customers globally and we will continue sharing our experience with the IT market to encourage the proliferation of virtualization.”
