id7 Adds Free Multi-Level De-Dupe
Across its disk-based backup product range
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 27, 2010 at 3:14 pmid7 Ltd., a UK manufacturer of iSCSI, Fibre Channel and InfiniBand based storage solutions for the SMB markets, announced that their BK4 disk based backup solution will include its multi-level deduplication functionality at no additional cost.
"We have not been ‘slow’ to introduce deduplication to our backup range, we have simply taken our time to develop a version which fits our market and maintains the performance levels that we are recognised for," said Mark Klarzynski, CTO, id7. "Our deduplication works at three levels which ensures excellent results and we have also introduced trigger points which means the deduplication process can take place either in-line, on backup completion, or at specific times; for example quiet periods during a day, at a specific hour, or even ‘x’ number of days after backup. With dedupe it’s not always just about backup performance but also recovery performance and trigger points allow the BK4 to be easily tuned to suit individual environments and demands."
This announcement follows id7’s recent introduction of the RM2, a mini-VTL which includes deduplication and replication at a MRSP of £1,500. id7’s focus throughout the last three years has been to deliver entire edge-to-core backup solutions to the SMB and whilst deduplication allows for greater data retention and effective use centralised capacity, it is essential for efficient WAN based replication within realistic SMB environments. id7’s backup range consists of the BK4 and the RM2 with pre-deduplicated capacities ranging from 2TB to over 200TB and have a wealth of features including Clone2tape which automates the production of a physical tape anywhere in the world by using the internet instead of a courier.
"We are keen to increase our preferred reseller base and the addition of dedupe across our BK4 & RM2 remote office backup range now offers a real alternative to the big brand names for storage focussed VARs that are looking for a competitive advantage both in terms of technology and price point," commented Neil Munday, VP Sales & Marketing, id7.
