IBM: Fiscal 2Q10 Financial Results

Storage increased a mere 5% from one year ago

For its second quarter of 2010 ending June 30, IBM Corp. announced that, into its Systems and Technology group with revenues up 3%, sales of system storage increased a mere 5 percent from 2Q09. The exact figure was not revealed but revenues of IBM system storage was around $780 million in 2Q09. Between the two same periods, storage product revenues of rival EMC grew 27% at $2.1 billion.

Big Blue’s disk system revenue grew 12% or 14% at constant currency, driven by high-end offerings XIV and DS8000. "XIV added more than 130 new customers to the platform in the second quarter, and revenue more than doubled year to year," stated the company. "Our Tivoli storage products also continue to perform very well, growing double digits and gaining share. As an example, XIV software, which provides ease of use and lower total cost of ownership, more than doubled. And Tivoli Storage Manager grew 10 percent this quarter, driven by its market leading data reduction capabilities and related cost benefits."
