V1.40 of iSMEStorage ($4)
Brings access to 10+ aggregated storage clouds for iPad.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 21, 2010 at 3:11 pmPrivate London, UK-based company SMEStorage announced version 1.40 of iSMEStorage, an update to the Cloud Storage virtualization application for the iPhone.
In the 1.40 release of the iSMEStorage iPhone application SMEStorage have added iPad and iPhone OS 4.0 support. The application brings access to over 10 aggregated storage clouds directly from the iPad with seamless viewing and management from a Virtual Cloud File System. Storage Clouds supported include Google Docs, Amazon S3, MobileMe, Microsoft SkyDrive and Live Mesh, RackSpace Cloud Files, Box.net, Mezeo, Gmail (GDrive), FTP, Email-as-a-Cloud, FTP Clouds and any WebDav enabled cloud.

"We are very pleased to have released such a sophisticated product for the iPad," states SMEStorage CEO Ian Osborne. "We find our individual professional and business users often store their files on several clouds, such as Google Docs, Amazon S3 and Microsoft SkyDrive, and they want to easily be able to manage them on the move. The iPad is an ideal device for doing this."

"We’ve provided many enhancement in this update as well as the support for iPad and IOS 4.0", continues Osborne. "Users can now register fully from an iPhone or iPad and do their initial cloud sync from the App. We’ve also made it easier to identify files and folders on different Clouds with logo visualisations, and we also gave more information about the files including the GEO location information that we hook into for all file uploads through our service."

"Users can also get a sync directly to the device. All they need to do is to drop files into a ‘My Syncs’ folder on the Storage Cloud and they are synchronised directly to the iPad/iPhone. We also support Memos, Voice Memos and Photo and Video uploads direct to any of the clouds we support.

"There are many business and collaboration features in the application, such as setting up business workspaces in which users can be invited to participate in content sharing.

"The new document sharing features in the iPad allowed us to enable files stored on any of the Clouds to be opened in any of the apps that support them directly in the iPad. For example, if you have an office document and you want to get it from your Cloud and edit it directly from another iPad application, you can do that.

"As a final thought, I think what we are providing and what we expect to continue to see is a new breed of application that is powered by a Cloud Gateway Middleware platform that gives access to disseminated Cloud data. We have many of our business customers tell us that SMEStorage, either as a multi-tenant SaaS hosted service or as a middleware appliance, is responsible for their ‘Data Aggregation strategy’."
