Infortrend EonStor DS With FC-to-FC System
4Gb and 8Gb
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 24, 2010 at 3:06 pmInfortrend announced its new storage systems featuring Fibre Channel (FC) host and drive connectivity to extend its entry-level product line, the EonStor DS. By connecting to expansion enclosures supporting FC or SATA drives, these storage systems can cost-effectively meet the needs of a number of diverse applications, whether the primary concern is high performance or large capacity.
The easy-to-use EonStor DS storage systems provide advanced data protection functionality and outstanding price/performance to help SMBs achieve uncompromised availability and meet service levels for their mission-critical applications – at affordable prices. Supporting storage-based snapshot and volume copy, the EonStor DS allows users to create differential and full copies for critical data sets, and leverage these copies for quick-service restart in cases where the storage is damaged by logical or physical errors.
Infortrend’s new 1U Fibre Channel host controller heads, FF-R4031 and FF-S4031, which have no hard drive bay in the systems, provide the support choices for both 4Gb/s and 8Gb/s FC SAN storage. Users can flexibly configure four or eight 4Gb/s FC host channels based on demands. If users require storage systems with internal drives, Infortrend’s 3U/16bay F16F models, F16F-R4031 or F16F-S4031, for 4Gb/s FC host connectivity, and F16F-R4840 or F16F-S4840, for 8Gb/s FC host connectivity, will fit the bill. Both the F16F-R/S4031 and F16F-R/S4840 provide four- or two-host channel options. Whether using 1U Fibre controller heads or 3U/16bay F16F models, users can expand them to support a maximum of 224 drives through FC drive-based or SATA drive-based expansion enclosures, depending on data demand. By combining high performance FC drives with cost-effective, large-sized SATA drives in an installation, users can get the highest ROI from their storage capacity while fulfilling business data requirements.
To safeguard cached data during power outages, Infortrend also integrates its innovative CacheSafe technology into the EonStor DS arrays. In the event of a power failure, the cache backup module will write all cached data to the flash backup module for permanent retention, eliminating the common 72-hour battery power limitation that can cause data loss.
Moreover, as with all of Infortrend’s storage systems, EonStor DS is built upon the High Availability (HA) hardware platform. All redundant modules including controllers, power supplies and cooling fans are hot-swappable to achieve high fault-tolerance capability, and full RAID protection ensures continuous accessibility to data of full integrity, even when up to two drives fail.
"Infortrend brings enterprise class data protection to SMBs – at an affordable price," noted James Hsieh, vice president of global marketing at Infortrend. "By adding Fibre-host connectivity models to our EonStor DS product family, we are offering businesses that are faced with managing ever-growing amounts of storage, and limited resources with which to do so, a wider choice."
