Xiotech ISE Supports 10,000 Exchange Mailboxes

In 3U rack

Xiotech Corporation that the company’s Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) technology delivered outstanding performance in a series of tests simulating medium- to large-sized Microsoft Exchange 2007 customer environments. The results were announced in conjunction with Microsoft TechEd North America 2010 in New Orleans.

Within the Microsoft Exchange Solution Reviewed Program (ESRP) – Storage v2.1 framework, Xiotech conducted tests of three distinct storage systems, each based on its Emprise 5000. The Emprise 5000 sustained 5,000, 8,000 and 10,000 mailboxes on a single Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server with very heavy user profiles and storage utilization capacity rates of more than 90 percent. At the 10,000 user level, the results were achieved in a 3U (5.25 inches) rack. This is in contrast to other systems tested that required as much as 9U or more.

"Our objective was to demonstrate that the Emprise 5000 provides the essential, flexible foundation of a high-performance, low cost, low-complexity solution, which simplifies storage deployment and management," said Steve Sicola, Chief Technology Officer at Xiotech. "The ESRP results underscore a compelling value-add of ISE: it can support Exchange 2007 in heavy user environments and offer performance unmatched by, and in a form-factor occupying a smaller data center footprint than, other storage solutions while allowing complete utilization of storage capacity."

With ISE at its core, the Emprise 5000 is a storage blade that delivers high performance, availability, linear scalability and extremely low total cost of ownership (TCO). Because Emprise 5000 utilizes sealed DataPacs rather than individual disk drives, each system provides the processing power of 20 to 40 disk drives in just 3U, or 5.25 inches of vertical rack space. And unlike traditional storage systems, Emprise’s patented technology allows the DataPacs to deliver even, predictable performance, even at 90 percent capacity. The result: a purebred performance solution devoid of the bottlenecks that so typically plague current storage architectures.

The ESRP – Storage is a Microsoft Exchange Server program designed to facilitate third-party storage testing and solution publishing for Exchange Server. Customers can use the solutions published to help plan/design their own Exchange storage architectures.
