Sans Digital Adds Three 6Gb Rackmount SAS Expansion JBODs

Sans Digital announced its full line of 6G rackmount SAS Expansion JBOD storage system with the following two new models: ES208X6+B (2U 8-bay) and ES316X6+B (3U 16-bay), in addition to the recently announced ES424X6+B (4U 24-bay). Both 6G SAS and SATA hard drives are supported with a maximum bandwidth of 24Gbps when a 6Gbp controller is used simultaneously.

The 6G technology was developed to address the increasing demand for greater data transfer speed in order to cope with the new IO performance requirement needed for information technology and video editing applications. 3Gbps performance on the SAS Expander is currently limited to 1200MB/s in bandwidth and generates about 700MB/s in RAID 6 environment. The introduction of 6Gbps RAID controller card such as LSI 9280 series doubled the bandwidth (2400MB/s) and tripled the performance to 1700MB/s in read (1500MB/s in write).

In addition to the performance, both ES208X6+B and ES316X6+B allow users to daisy-chain multiple units together, supporting up to a maximum of 122 hard drives with one single RAID HBA. The ES316X6+B and ES208X6+B also support both 3G and 6G SATA or SAS hard drives and include an abundant array of features such as redundant power supply modules (ES316X6+B, optional for ES208X6+B) and fan / power supply failure alert with mute function.

Both also support SGPIO, which enables the HBA controller to access real-time information regarding the ES316X6+B / ES208X6+B and each of the hard drives installed in the unit. Using only one cable, the ES316X6+B provides up to 32TB of storage capacity in one single unit and allow up to two hard drive failures without data loss when RAID 6 is implemented at speed excess of 2000MB/s.

All Sans Digital EliteStor ES series 6G SAS expansion JBOD models are backward compatible with 3G RAID controllers, allowing immediate deployment and upgrade later.
