Data Robotics Certified With Symantec Backup Exec 2010

On DroboElite and DroboPro

Data Robotics, Inc. has achieved interoperability certification with Symantec Backup Exec 2010.

Combining Data Robotics’ DroboElite and DroboPro virtualized data storage solutions with Symantec Backup Exec 2010 provides small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with improvements and cost savings for backup operations and simplified data recovery.

Interoperability certification specifies that DroboElite and DroboPro have passed a detailed evaluation and testing process managed by Symantec and are now listed on the Backup Exec 2010 Hardware Compatibility List. Passing the extensive backup-to-disk testing helps ensure that Drobo data storage solutions make best use of Symantec data protection technology and are ready for deployment in customers’ Backup Exec environments.

"We purchased DroboPro to help reduce infrastructure costs, reduce storage management complexity, and meet infrastructure scalability requirements," said Brette Doyle, network administrator for St. Mary’s Academy. "Combining DroboPro with Symantec Backup Exec to protect the data on our primary file server has proven to be a very intuitive solution and a key enabler in helping the IT staff at St. Mary’s Academy cost-effectively scale to meet network storage demands."

With Symantec Backup Exec 2010 integration,
Data Robotics and Symantec customers benefit from:

  • Seamless integration between Backup Exec 2010 and DroboElite and DroboPro data storage solutions
  • Unified control and tracking of all copies of data via the Backup Exec interface — including copies replicated to disaster recovery sites
  • Simplified disaster recovery, as Backup Exec is already aware of all copies of data and individually tracks retention periods for each copy
  • Granular recovery for virtual applications that eliminate redundant backups for Microsoft applications running in a VMware or Hyper-V environment
  • Data Robotics’ BeyondRAID technology, which enables IT managers to efficiently and easily mix and match drives regardless of manufacturer, capacity, or speed
  • 8-drive storage array capacity that ensures continuous data access by automatically expanding data storage capacity to 16TB and beyond
  • Protection against simultaneous failure of up to two hard drives without losing access to data, as well as single-click toggling between single and dual-drive redundancy
  • Best-in-class performance with enhancements such as multiple stream optimization and single and dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces for high speed iSCSI connectivity
  • DroboElite’s multi-host support with LUN affinity, which allows small and medium sized businesses with limited IT resources to simplify management and reduce costs by consolidating storage across multiple servers

"We are pleased that Data Robotics’ DroboElite and DroboPro data storage solutions are certified compatible with Backup Exec 2010, signifying to customers that they have passed stringent Symantec testing and interoperability criteria and are ready to run their mission-critical business applications and operations," said Jason Fisher, director of product management for Backup Exec, Symantec.

"With guaranteed compatibility between Symantec Backup Exec 2010 and DroboElite and DroboPro, businesses can seamlessly deploy advanced control, ease of use and performance across their data protection environment," said Tom Buiocchi, CEO of Data Robotics. "Data Robotics’ integration with Symantec enables DroboPro and DroboElite users to further reduce the complexity and storage costs associated with data backup and disaster recovery by leveraging Data Robotics’ award-winning BeyondRAID platform combined with the advanced backup, recovery, and archive features offered by Symantec’s Backup Exec software suite."
