UK id7 Offering Free Upgrade to 10GbE Connectivity on All Storage Solutions

To its partners through Hammer

id7, manufacturer of iSCSI, Fibre Channel and InfiniBand based storage solutions for the SMB markets, has announced that in-line with a steep rise in the demand for 10Gb iSCSI based solutions and to assist its partners to enter this rapidly expanding UK market, it will be introducing an incentive as part of its channel programme, id7 Connect, that will allow partners to upgrade all 4U solutions from dual 1Gb iSCSI to 2 x 10Gb connectivity interfaces, free of charge.(Available for a limited period and stock availability. id7 reserves the right to withdraw the promotion without notice)

"10Gb iSCSI adoption is on the rise," said Bob Laliberte of storage analysts, Enterprise Storage Group (ESG). "In a recent survey of nearly 1,500 end users, ESG found that 52% either already use or plan to use iSCSI in their data centres”.

The world of iSCSI has opened up options for an SMB server room. Uptake has been fast primarily due to the simplicity and ease of integration. However recognized performance bottlenecks have occurred as connectivity has been limited to 1Gb. id7 have opened up our range of primary and backup storage to provide lightning fast 10Gb connectivity. Combine this with cost effective and readily available 10Gb HBAs and you can quickly see why so many customers are benefiting from significant increases in performance,” commented Mark Klarzynski, CTO of id7.

What we are introducing is not just the opportunity for our resellers, without risk or cost, to recommend 10Gb iSCSI solutions, but to add very real value, for example by significantly decreasing customers’ backup windows. It’s all about recommending essential storage solutions that provide ultimate flexibility; significantly enhanced performance, future proofing but that are accompanied by a realistic price tag,” commented Neil Munday, VP Sales & Marketing, id7.

id7 have embraced all connectivity standard including iSCSI, Fribre, InfiniBand and FCoE but 10Gb iSCSI offers an affordable high performance storage solution, which coupled with id7’s advanced virtualization and features, increases protection and productivity many fold. Users are seeing that a backup window that used to span across the weekend is now completed successfully within a few hours:

Regardless of how many 1Gb ports a storage solution throws at a SAN, it still has the issue of latency which makes a real difference to real applications. 10Gb iSCSI stands out as an Enterprise class connectivity but with minimal comparative cost.  What we are seeing is that customers want dual configuration ability, to connect 10Gb direct to demanding servers and therefore requiring no switch and only off-the-shelf 10Gbe cards, whilst utilising multiple 1Gb’s for their standard switch SAN, as can be achieved with id7’s appliances. There is no realistically sensible reason not to implement 10Gb iSCSI if it is free,” said Paul Hickingbotham, Solutions Manager, Hammer PLC.

The incentive is available immediately through Hammer PLC for a limited time period to offer UK resellers a competitive edge and lead in being first to market.

In September 2009, id7 launched its 4th generation technology under the company’s id7 brand with a focus on providing enterprise class storage to the masses through its network of channel partners. These partners are served through Hammer PLC in the UK. Prices of the PR4 start from £1,500 MSRP.
