This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 27, 2010 at 3:19 pmDot Hill Systems Corp. announced an OEM agreement with transtec AG, a Germany-based IT solutions provider specializing in virtualization, high performance computing (HPC) and IT infrastructures.
transtec’s key areas of expertise lie in the evaluation, development and implementation of customized products and concepts. transtec’s IT solutions are designed using the ‘engineered-to-order’ principle and customized to individual requirements. With more than 30 years of experience, transtec operates subsidiaries in Belgium, France, the UK, Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.
Under the terms of the agreement, transtec will use Dot Hill storage solutions to enhance its customized infrastructure offerings with more flexibility and robustness for small-and-medium-sized enterprises. Together the two companies want to take advantage of the European midrange market demand for affordable, turnkey data protection solutions that meet increasingly stringent demands in terms of reliability, performance and scalability.
"We have selected Dot Hill next-generation technology because of its robust maturity of design for SMEs with enterprise demands. These mission-critical 8Gb Fibre Channel and upcoming 10Gb iSCSI storage building blocks enable transtec to provide customers enhanced IT virtualization solutions," said Marco Poggioli, director of product management at transtec.
"transtec understands that storage is not a one-size-fits-all market and works closely with its customers to develop tailor-made solutions to match individual needs. Dot Hill shares this approach and is delighted to work with transtec to offer small-and-medium-sized customers not only full flexibility of choice but also cost-efficiency, robustness and scalability in their storage infrastructure," said Andy Mills, vice president of marketing, Dot Hill.
Dot Hill 3000 Series as differentiator for OEMs
At the heart of the new agreement is the new Dot Hill 3000 Series, a range of entry level storage solutions that rival more costly midrange products and enable OEMs such as transtec to provide small-to-medium businesses and data center managers with access to cost-effective and energy-efficient storage options that may previously have been beyond the scope of their budgets. The 3000 Series also includes volume copy, snapshot and remote replication software as standard, making affordable, comprehensive disaster recovery solutions available to the entry level space. The 3000 Series features a number of eco-friendly enhancements such as drive-spin-down capability and 595-watt 80 PLUS-rated (greater than 80 percent energy efficiency) power supplies for reduced operating costs. Additionally, the 3000 Series also features Dot Hill’s patented EcoStor ‘green’ battery-free alternative for cache memory, which leverages a combination of super capacitors and flash memory that outlasts traditional batteries nearly fivefold. Business benefits include lower maintenance and disposal costs and reduced server and application down time due to scheduled battery replacement and maintenance.
