Arris Adds Content Delivery Device Utilizing 12TB and 24TB SSDs
To its ConvergeMedia XMS Distribution platform
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 19, 2010 at 3:07 pmARRIS Group, Inc. announced the addition of two new solutions to the ConvergeMedia XMS Distribution platform:
- The XMS 2K Flash, a scalable content delivery device utilizing Flash solid state storage technology. The XMS 2K Flash offers high performance, low power consumption and solid state reliability, particularly suited for the Content Distribution Network (CDN) edge.
- The XMS Mini, designed to provide cost effective Video on Demand (VOD) and advertising insertion capabilities for hospitality and small service provider deployments, like VOD in a Box.
XMS Mini and XMS 2K Flash complement ARRIS’ existing XMS 2K as part of the XMS product line’s Adaptive Media technology. All XMS products run ARRIS Streaming Media Engine (SME) software, featuring support for:
- Video On Demand
- Scheduled Program Delivery
- Ad Insertion
- Network DVR (nPVR, Time-shifted TV, RS-DVR)
- Dynamic VOD Advertising
- IPTV
- Multi-screen Video Applications
Small operators will find the XMS Mini well suited for VOD environments with fewer than ten thousand subscribers. The XMS Mini enables operators, large and small, to deploy digital Ad Insertion in a cost-effective manner. For more sizeable VOD deployments, the XMS 2K is ideally suited for large content libraries, providing reliable, low cost disk-based content ingest, storage and delivery for the central and regional portions of service provider CDNs. The XMS 2K Flash can be positioned at the edge of these same CDNs, combining with XMS 2K to provide a complete CDN infrastructure, operated coherently by way of ARRIS’ ConvergeMedia Management Platform.
"We are responding to the many requests for a broader suite of the XMS delivery platform that we have received from customers around the world," said ARRIS VP On Demand Product Strategy Basil Badawiyeh. "The XMS platform supports an evolving and dynamic set of solutions that address customer needs as they migrate their networks to CDN and terrestrial-based delivery in their largest markets, provide advanced services in their smaller markets and embark upon a multi screen media experience."
