Shoden Endorser of European Code of Conduct on Data Centres Energy

To gain green credentials

Shoden Data Systems UK is now an endorser of the European Code of Conduct on Data Centres Energy Efficiency, a document that aims to provide guidelines for organisations in order to reduce the environmental and economic impact of data centres.

Reducing energy consumption while maintaining critical IT functions and high performance is crucial, and the provision of a set of core standards to follow, is already proving invaluable for IT administrators looking to reduce their carbon footprints. These voluntary guidelines provide a set of ‘best practice’ procedures, with the aim of bringing more stringent compliance measures into place in the future.

The Code also aims to educate the industry and improve understanding of energy demands within data centres, including use of servers, storage, power and cooling equipment; only by understanding the environmental, economic and security implications of data centre energy consumption can Endorsers implement improved strategies, and help the EU to educate other organisations. There are significant financial, environmental and infrastructure benefits to be gained by improving the efficiency of out-dated data centres and awareness is the first step towards reaping these rewards.

Phil Jones, CTO and co-founder of Shoden Data Systems UK, said:" As an environmentally-aware organisation, and as a partner end users look to for guidance on many IT and related issues, it is important for Shoden to take this step and to show our commitment to lowering energy consumption in data centres, and the resulting bills.  The ‘green’ aspect is an increasingly important credential to have in the current climate and we are thrilled to be part of this innovative and significant EU initiative."
