On Dell hardware

i365, Inc., a Seagate company, announced EVault for Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager, a collaboration with Microsoft Corp. that has resulted in a heterogeneous disk-based data protection solution that allows IT managers to extend Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2010 across non-Microsoft platforms and into the Cloud, using i365’s EVault data protection software and Cloud-Connected storage solutions infrastructure.

EVault for DPM on Dell hardware is scheduled to be available in June and can be ordered through i365 and Microsoft channel partners.

In mixed IT environments with Microsoft operating systems and applications as well as data on other platforms, customers have been struggling to find the best way to protect all of their company-critical data with a single solution. Until now, no backup product offered DPM, with its protection for Microsoft servers, applications and desktops, combined with heterogeneous support for non-Microsoft platforms and the option to protect data in the Cloud. EVault for Data Protection Manager is the only product that can meet all of these needs.

When we learned that our trusted partner i365 was coupling the strength of EVault with the Microsoft data protection solution, and providing Cloud Connectivity options, we knew that this joint solution has the potential to be much more powerful than the sum of its parts,” said Tim Burke, president and CEO of Quest. “Our expertise in data security and disaster recovery is an important reason that we at Quest continue to rapidly grow and continue to satisfy our customer base. To this end we are always improving our business continuity and data protection practices. We have been eagerly awaiting Microsoft’s delivery of DPM 2010, and EVault for DPM as a powerful new option to protect Microsoft and non-Microsoft applications.”

EVault for DPM is an all-in-one backup and recovery appliance that combines DPM’s unified data protection for Microsoft Windows servers and applications with EVault’s robust protection for non-Microsoft platforms and cloud connectivity. With EVault for DPM, customers can send both their DPM and EVault-protected backup data to the i365 Cloud and get offsite disaster recovery protection quickly and economically. The optional Cloud-Connected storage service includes efficient and secure replication of the backup data over the Internet to the Cloud, and maintains backup copies of data in the i365 Cloud. The i365 Cloud is supported by geographically dispersed, SAS70 Type II-certified data centers, staffed by a team of experts and employing state-of-the-art encryption protocols, storage technologies, and redundancy practices to ensure ironclad protection of data.

"Microsoft’s DPM 2010 for protecting Windows environments combined with i365’s EVault backup management capabilities for other platforms such as IBM, Linux, Novell NetWare, Oracle, UNIX, and VMware is aimed at helping small and mid-sized businesses with a Microsoft-centered infrastructure that need integrated on-premises and cloud-based protection for heterogeneous systems," said Don Retallack, Directions on Microsoft Research VP, Systems Management and Security.

Customers have several configurations to choose from – each with all the hardware, software and support they need. The hardware will be powered by Dell technology and will ship factory-installed with both DPM and EVault Software with a common user interface to help customers monitor their entire heterogeneous environment and initiate complex tasks with ease. It also includes helpful wizards that will guide customers through the setup process. EVault for DPM configurations will start at $9,995.

We are working closely with i365 so customers can extend the protection offered by Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager to many platforms within their enterprise,” said Vij Rajarajan, general manager, Management and Services Division at Microsoft Corp. “A major thrust of System Center enables IT teams to manage large numbers of physical and virtual machines with lower cost and effort. Together, Microsoft and i365 are helping companies manage heterogeneous data protection with a single pane interface, and extending the benefits of System Center.

Microsoft’s upcoming release of System Center Data Protection Manager 2010 is a perfect convergence point for MadWolf’s two key practices – Microsoft-based application development and a data protection practice anchored by i365. MadWolf’s newly developed Microsoft-based solutions, especially those based on SharePoint, have grown dramatically in complexity and sophistication and now propagate throughout the entire enterprise and embrace many legacy non-Microsoft platforms. Now that i365 has joined forces with Microsoft to protect every platform within the enterprise under a single interface, we see a powerful opportunity to leverage the strength of Microsoft’s presence to protect heterogeneous environments,” said Douglas Wolfire, president and CEO of MadWolf Technologies. “As an early-release partner for EVault for DPM, we are proud to be a part of i365’s and Microsoft’s joint effort to raise the bar in heterogeneous data protection and deliver the best-in-class backup and recovery solution.”

Extending Seagate’s long standing relationship with Dell, i365/Seagate includes in today’s news that EVault for DPM will be based on a solid foundation of Dell server and storage platforms. The appliance-based model makes it easy to purchase, deploy and manage i365 solutions with special bundling, streamlined licensing, and Dell support backing up i365’s customer support worldwide.

Together with Microsoft, i365 is leveraging Dell’s significant engineering, integration, and tier-one quality to deliver a more stable and reliable data protection appliance,” said Josh Kivenko, global marketing manager of Dell OEM Solutions. “We’ve been in the appliance business for more than 10 years, and believe the Dell-powered appliance from i365 is an excellent choice for customers in need of a turnkey backup and disaster recovery solution.”

Partnering with Dell and Microsoft to deliver EVault for DPM demonstrates key support and momentum for i365’s Cloud-Connected strategy,” said Terry Cunningham, senior vice president and general manager, i365. “EVault technology is making Cloud-based data protection an important part of disaster recovery initiatives for more customers every day, proving the efficiency, security, and flexibility of these services. Customers can expect to see more innovative Cloud-Connected offerings from i365 moving forward as we continue to help our customers meet the challenges of maintaining business continuity in cross-platform, multi-site environments.”
