Sans Digital Rackmount RAID 6
In 2U 8-bay and 3U 16-bay with USB 2.0 and eSATA interfaces
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 27, 2010 at 2:51 pmSans Digital announced large capacity eSATA and USB storage units. The EliteRAID ER208UT+B and ER316UT+B are hardware RAID 6 products in 2U 8-bay and 3U 16-bay rackmount formats. Supporting the latest 2TB hard drives, a single RAID volume is capable of offering up to 32TB, providing high capacity storage solutions in widely available USB 2.0 and eSATA interfaces.

USB and eSATA are the most common interfaces used on servers and personal computers. Customized applications such as military or surveillance DVR/NVR computing also utilize USB or eSATA ports. One of the most common challenges is to expand the capacity of the existing storage system when no additional expansion port is available. The EliteRAID ER208UT+B and ER316UT+B are designed to expand via both USB and eSATA, with hardware RAID protection to eliminate operating system incompatibility. The built-in dedicated RAID engines perform complex RAID calculations without assistance from the host computers, increasing the overall system performance. Without the need for drivers or additional software, the ER208UT+B and ER316UT+B RAID volumes are recognized by Windows, Mac or Linux computers as large-sized hard drives.
The ER208UT+B and ER316UT+B are built with enterprise features. In addition to RAID 0, 1, 3 and 5, they also support RAID 6, allowing up to two hard drive failures in a single RAID volume. Multiple RAID selection feature is available with up to 8 different RAID volumes. Online migration and RAID capacity expansion is supported so that users could add hard drives to the RAID volume without experiencing downtimes. RAID management is available via built-in web interfaces such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, without the need for additional monitoring software. Warning messages for critical events could be sent via e-mail notifications and SNMP traps. Hot-swappable tray modules and rackmount rails are included. Redundant power supplies are built into the ER316UT+B, and are optional for the ER208UT+B.
"USB and eSATA are the most commonly seen interfaces, yet there are not enough high capacity RAID storage solutions that utilize these interfaces," said Grandy Chen, President of Sans Digital. "With the newly released ER208UT+B and ER316UT+B, users could easily take advantage of the easily accessible USB or eSATA ports for high capacity and high performance storage with protection."
