Floppy Disks Lose Trailblazer Sony For Good
Sony Corp. said that it will stop producing and selling floppy disks altogether next March, a move hastened by plunging demand. The electronics giant developed the technical standards that define today’s mainstream floppy disks, rolling out its 3.5-inch model in 1981. The company still leads the domestic market with a 70% share. It sold about 8.5 million units in Japan last year.
