SEP Backup Software Appliance Powered by SUSE Linux Enterprise

Starting at $549

SEP Software and SEP AG Weyarn, Germany, in cross-platform data backup and recovery software, jointly announce the availability of the SEP sesam Backup Appliance (SEP SBA), a robust, feature-rich and powerful backup software powered by SUSE Linux Enterprise from Novell. SEP SBA runs in physical environments or on any virtual environment from VMware server, vSphere4, ESX, ESXi, Xen and HyperV, and is now available for immediate delivery.

This new product offering allows IT professionals and their organizations to easily install a backup and recovery solution in heterogeneous environments. The new SEP sesam Backup Appliance delivers a complete solution for complex backup requirements, from the SUSE Linux Enterprise operating system to robust and complete backup, recovery and disaster recovery. SEP SBA can backup information to local disk and tape as well as remote servers and cloud-based solutions. SEP SBA is the first appliance to provide backup support for physical, virtual and cloud environments.

The SEP sesam Backup Appliance was developed as part of the SUSE Appliance Program, a comprehensive business and technology program that enables Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to rapidly build, update, configure and go-to-market with fully-supported software and virtual appliances.

"The SUSE Appliance Program enables SEP and other ISVs to quickly configure and customize software and virtual appliances," said Carlos Montero-Luque, vice president of Business and Product Management at Novell. "By leveraging the SUSE Appliance Program, SEP is giving its customers confidence that the SEP sesam Backup Appliance is a fully-supported backup and recovery solution."

"The SEP sesam Backup Appliance combines maximum reliability, performance and interoperability at the lowest cost of ownership," said Georg Moosreiner, CEO, SEP AG. "It gives system integrators and resellers a competitive advantage and enables them to help their customers reduce costs, manage complexity and mitigate risk in these tough economic times."

This new appliance improves business efficiency and is easily tailored for any business processes. Using the management console on a browser, new hardware and software components (e. g. Novell Open Enterprise Server 2, Novell GroupWise, Novell eDirectory, NSS Volumes, Novell Cluster Services, Novell Teaming and Novell iFolder) can be seamlessly integrated into the backup and business continuity strategy. Now you can integrate complex database modules rapidly, reliably, at the least possible cost with just a few mouse clicks. Even high-end solutions like SAP/R3 can be integrated in the shortest time possible.

By using the exact same tools for all backup requirements, every possible scenario from Real to Virtual to the Cloud is now possible. German engineers have developed a complete and thorough solution that automatically ensures CPU loads and backup windows are minimized at every opportunity and also assures the SEP SBA gets the required hardware resources when needed.

The SEP sesam Backup Appliance is ideal for IT professionals who require fast and effective backup solutions, and it simplifies the installation and configuration process in every heterogeneous environment – both for businesses and governments. The product is available for SMB’s starting at $549 and is immediately accessible from all SEP distributors and partners.
