Shoden Reselling Avere
In UK
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 12, 2010 at 3:01 pmPart of Africa’s independent IT solutions integrator Shoden Data Systems (Pty) Ltd group, Shoden Data Systems UK, provider of server and data storage solutions, has signed a partnership with Avere Systems, Inc., in tiered NAS with its Demand-Driven Storage solutions, to allow NAS users to get more out of their investments into these filers.
The two companies’ shared vision of reducing complexity and outlay while offering unrivalled service cements the partnership. According to the agreement, Shoden will be reselling Avere Systems’ FXT Series of tiered NAS appliances to enable organisations to improve performance and reduce the TCO of their NAS farms. Cutting cost not only offers financial benefits, but green ones too; the use of more affordable NAS servers populated with lower-cost, high-capacity media such as SATA hard disk drives allows end users to extend the lifespan of legacy NAS systems while reducing power consumption, cooling and rack space requirements.
Existing Avere Systems users have already achieved reduced latency and better, more consistent service from their IT departments. For example, Sony Pictures Imageworks, the special effects company behind blockbusters such as Alice in Wonderland 3D, chose Avere to support its digital animation studio in Albuquerque because not only does its FXT Series deliver the IOPs the group needs without driving up operational costs, its two-stage NAS architecture allows them the flexibility to work with a multitude of mass storage systems. The FXT gives Sony Imageworks the ability to deploy high-performance NAS to employees located in its digital animation studio in New Mexico at a reasonable cost and with minimal administration. It is perfect for giving these employees the ability to access network files at headquarters with a dramatic reduction in overall latency, making some users believe they moved the entire mass storage system to Albuquerque.
"Many organisations are looking at moving their user data to file-based structures; recent analyst reports show that this sector is growing rapidly, with 20% of external storage now being file-based," said Phil Jones, CTO of Shoden Data Systems UK. "I strongly believe that now is the right time to offer this innovative solution so we are looking forward to targeting a rapidly growing sector and expanding our market share."
Each member of the Shoden team has a very strong track record in the IT and data storage market in particular. Their holistic understanding of the industry, coupled with their technological know-how helps end users understand how to address their challenges and achieve their datacentre financial, environmental and performance goals. This is what makes Shoden a valuable partner for Avere Systems. Brian Gladden, VP Sales at Avere Systems said: "We are looking forward to help joint customers get more from their NAS investments while delivering outstanding service. A strong partnership builds confidence among end users and we look forward to a long and healthy relationship with Shoden."
Shoden Data Systems UK is committed to developing pioneering storage and server solution to organisations, including mainframe users, looking to benefit from the latest developments in technologies such as data deduplication.
