David Skinner SVP Engineering and Technical Ops for IceWEB

This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 12, 2010 at 3:01 pmIceWEB, Inc. announced that the company has brought in Senior Technology Executive, Mr. David Skinner, as the new SVP of Engineering and Technical Operations for IceWEB.
Mr. Skinner, a seasoned storage technology veteran, brings an added dynamic to the IceWEB team. He has a depth of experience in architecture, development and technology evaluation, assessing and valuing intellectual property, and IP buy/sell transactions. From 2006 to 2008 he held the position of VP of Engineering at LeftHand Networks, Inc. The company was acquired by HP for $360m in 2008. While at LeftHand Mr. Skinner led the development and delivery of storage virtualization software (SAN/IQ) and systems. He was responsible for all aspects of feasibility, architecture, product development, engineering test, enhancement and sustaining LeftHand’s products. Additionally, Mr. Skinner managed teams located in Boulder, CO and Mumbai (Bombay), India.
Most notably before joining LeftHand, Mr. Skinner was a Senior Technologist for Sun Microsystems where he was responsible for developing strategy and technology in the area of reliability, availability, serviceability and diagnosability (RASD), enabling Sun to re-position itself from a mid-level UNIX storage peripherals vendor to an enterprise storage provider. Additionally, he expanded Sun’s portfolio of intellectual property in RASD, leading the development of over a dozen patents.
In previous positions, he served as CTO at Fujitsu ASG and also held various senior engineering and management positions at StorageTek. Dave is long-time member of both the Associations for computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and has served as the chair of several IEEE standards committees. He has a BSEE from the University of Colorado at Boulder and has completed graduate work at both CU and UCLA in electromagnetics, computer science and telecommunications.
