VSC Design Specifies Atempo for Dià¡rio Econà³mico TV

New broadcast system installed for Portuguese economic news media

Atempo announced that Broadcast systems specialist VSC Design has included Atempo Digital Archive, Atempo’s digital content archiving platform in the new broadcast system installed for Portuguese economic news media company Diário Económico. Based in Lisbon, the Económico TV is one of the most important sources of financial news in Portugal and the move into televising the company’s news and advice is a major development.

As part of the installation, VSC specified Atempo Digital Archive as the preferred solution for digital assets archiving. The environment is based on the Building4Media FORK Production Suite which offers the combination of a considerable cost advantage, by utilizing AJA SD/HD cards integrated into the Apple Mac platform, and a feature rich production to playout environment encompassing both tape and file based ingest.

Atempo Digital Archive is an open archive software solution with automated, end-user, and workflow-triggered archiving capabilities. It migrates content from primary storage to near-line and deep archive that can be digital tape, disk or cloud storage. Unlike HSM-only solutions, Atempo Digital Archive provides rich search and retrieval capabilities – from a drag-and-drop UI to stub files to metadata search. Atempo Digital Archive in addition to offering a dedicated integration with FORK has the features and flexibility required to create a central storage that can support all steps in a digital workflow.

VSC Managing Director Martyn Hales spoke of the reasons for the choice: “Atempo has an established reputation in workflow and data management so combining this strong pedigree and their proven integration with the Building4Media FORK system was a natural choice. The scalability of the environments selected meant that we could implement a powerful solution starting at an effective entry price. Having chosen Overland as the LTO tape robot it was pleasing to find how easily the Atempo Digital Archive connected and worked with it.”

Technical Director António Rocha Lopes explained: “In fact here at Económico TV we are developing not only a full HD cable channel but also a multi platform project. We’re running a corporate channel as well, and developing the tools for a web-based distribution of content. We are trying to innovate as much as we can in those fields and we’ve been quite successful. We chose VSC Design for their proven work in systems integration. We needed an independent consultancy to supervise all third party manufacturers and suppliers. Our time schedule was quite ambitious as we started the project in May and wanted it delivered in September. At this stage we can say it was a good decision to involve VSC. They have been a great help in the process and I can affirm now that perhaps they could have had even a more important role regarding the integration. In future projects we would like to extend that collaboration even more.”

Atempo has been focusing on providing workflow and data management solutions to the broadcast industry for several years. This focus has lead us to develop partnerships with key industry leaders such as Building4Media so that we can offer our joint customers solutions that help them better manage their workflow and digital assets short and long term,” said Marylise Tauzia, Director of Product Management & Marketing at Atempo. “The dedicated integration with FORK Production Suite makes ADA uniquely positioned to address the specific needs of our broadcast customers while also offering them the multiple storage management and archiving features. We are proud to see that Economico TV was able to leverage our joint solution to develop new services for their customers.”
