Bill Moore Member of Advisory Board at Nexenta

Moore joins Sam Pullara, entrepreneur-in-residence at Benchmark and former chief technologist at Yahoo!, and Randy Bias, founder of Cloudscaling, a cloud systems design consultancy, to advise Nexenta as it builds on its position as the most widely deployed, ZFS-based unified storage alternative to expensive, outdated legacy storage.
Moore co-led the team that delivered Sun Microsystems’ ZFS file system and served as chief engineer for its Storage Server group, where he designed Sun’s next-generation storage servers.
He joined Sun in 1996 to work on the Sun Fire x800 series of servers, designing and implementing the framework for the system controller software. Lead software engineer doing UltraSPARC-III bringup on Sun Fire. He left Sun in 1999 to form an enterprise storage startup called 3PARdata, where he was involved in every aspect of the company, including overall hardware and software design and implementation. He re-joined Sun in 2003 and is applying his storage industry expertise towards ZFS and the design of Sun’s next-generation storage servers. He has 45 granted or filed patents. He got a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Michigan Technological University and master’s degree in computer science from Michigan State University.

- Sam Pullara, entrepreneur-in-residence at Benchmark Capital’ Pullara was most recently at Yahoo! as chief technologist, where he was responsible for Yahoo!’s product and technology strategy across the organization. In addition to his time at Yahoo!, Pullara has spent a significant part of his career building successful start-up companies.
- Randy Bias, founder of Cloudscaling’Bias most recently served as the vice president of technology strategy at GoGrid, and was responsible for providing tactical and strategic vision around all technology for the GoGrid cloud computing platform. Bias has been deeply involved with IT, operations, and 247 service delivery since 1990. His long history with service providers includes: Silicon Valley’s first co-location/hosting company; one of the first data center companies; the first on-demand vulnerability scanning service; and one IPO.
