WD VelociRaptor VR200M Enterprise HDD at 600GB to Come?
2.5-inch, 10,000rpm, 6Gb SATA interface
By Jean Jacques Maleval | April 6, 2010 at 2:53 pmOn storagereview.com appears a PDF document, apparently from WD with all the specs of a new enterprise hard disk drive, the VelociRaptor VR200M.
This next generation of VelociRaptor at 200GB per platter will be available at 150GB, 300GB, 450GB and 600GB, or twice more the maximum capacity of the current WD3000BLFS, with 6Gb replacing 3Gb SATA, 32MB – and not 16MB – of cache, and once more with 15mm height and 10,000rpm rotational speed. As for the former models, WD also offers the device designed into a 3.5-inch mounting frame for installation in 3.5-inch enabled systems and chassis. MTBF is at 1.4 million hours.
These new series can be compared to Toshiba MBF2600RC and Seagate Savvio 10K.4 recently announced but with SAS interface. Only Seagate also proposes 4Gb FC connexion.
