inXtron HDD Enclosures With USB 3.0
The SK-3500 U3 for 3.5-inch disk drive
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 5, 2010 at 3:21 pminXtron Incorporated, a Taiwanese manufacturer of direct attached storage, network attached storage and various other products, has released their first SuperSpeed Hard Drive enclosure with USB 3.0. The device, which is called the SK-3500 U3, is designed to hold a 3.5" SATA hard drive and supports drives over 2TB. The aluminum enclosure features a large heatsink for passive cooling and is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems.
USB, the world’s best known and most commonly used computer peripheral interface has now been revamped to enable super fast data transfer speeds of up to 4.8 Gbps with the new USB 3.0 (aka SuperSpeed USB). That makes USB 3.0 approximately 10 times faster than USB 2.0. Check out this link for a look at how USB 3.0 compares to 2.0 and eSATA.
Several other companies have either come out with or are scheduled to come out with USB 3.0 compatible devices this year. This new technology is now appearing on solid state drives (SSD), flash drives, motherboards, and external cases such as the inXtron SK-3500, Blu-ray optical drives, adapter cards & hubs, high-end notebooks as well as various other products. Other companies have confirmed that they plan to use USB 3.0 in movie kiosks, digital cameras and other high end equipment.
As more and more new PC’s begin integrating USB 3.0 ports into their design, it is only a matter of time until the USB 3.0 is standard equipment on most electronic devices that now use USB 2.0 or Firewire interfaces. USB 3.0 is compatible with Windows 7, so look for a multitude of new PC, laptop and netbook manufacturers to include USB 3.0 ports as standard equipment on their new machines. Products that come bundled with USB 3.0 express cards such as the new ASUS netbook will also push the new technology to the forefront of consumer awareness and fuel the desire for the new SuperSpeed USB data transfer rates.
inXtron is working with Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. on cross-compatibility between their HDD enclosures and the extensive range of Gigabyte USB 3.0 motherboards on offer. As such, inXtron is the first USB 3.0 partner to qualify for the ‘Compatible with Gigabyte USB 3.0 Motherboards’ logo.
inXtron founder and CEO, Tommy Chen announced: "We are very happy to have worked with Gigabyte on this project and are extremely proud to be the first partner to qualify for the ‘Compatible with Gigabyte USB 3.0 Motherboard’ logo. Our goal now is to not only be the first, but also the biggest. Our aim is to be the leading manufacturer of USB 3.0 compatible storage devices. People sometimes forget who the first one was, but not who the biggest one is".
