Paragon Software Selected by Iomega

For its iConnect Wireless Data Station

Paragon Software Group has been selected by Iomega, an EMC company, to provide its Universal File System Drive (UFSD) technology. In data security and data management solutions, Paragon will provide technology solutions to embed in or bundle with Iomega products to serve the consumer storage, network storage and network appliance markets.

The first Iomega product to include Paragon’s technology is the Iomega iConnect Wireless Data Station. Unveiled at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in January, the iConnect Wireless Data Station provides a simple way to bring USB storage into a user’s network, allowing the user to connect, share and access files anywhere. With the addition of Paragon NTFS for Linux and HFS+ for Linux, users will be able to attach their Windows and/or Mac-formatted external HDDs to the iConnect Wireless Data Station, thereby turning it into an NAS device. Paragon’s technology will enable all PCs and servers attached to the iConnect Wireless Data Station to access and share files to/from the attached drive, regardless of the drive’s format.

Paragon’s NTFS for Linux and HFS+ for Linux are based on Paragon’s unique Universal File System Driver (UFSD) technology, which was specially developed to provide full high-performance access (read/write, format, etc.) to volumes of the most popular file systems (NTFS, HFS+, Ext2/3FS, etc.) under various kernels and operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, VxWorks, etc.), where these file systems would not otherwise be supported.

"We are continuously seeking new innovations that will enhance our customer’s experience with our products," said Bill Hansen, NAS product manager, Iomega Corporation. "Paragon was a natural fit for us due to their pioneering UFSD technology for cross-platform compatibility coupled with the best read/write performance available – a critical component for network storage in which multiple users can simultaneously download, play and share content. We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Paragon."

"Iomega is one of the leaders in the consumer and SMB storage market," said Tom Fedro, president of Paragon Software Group. "Our technology combined with Iomega’s products will benefit a variety of customers, from consumers to SOHOs to SMBs. We are excited about working with Iomega to offer customers a rich and satisfactory experience."
