ExaGrid De-Dupe With Symantec NetBackup

ExaGrid Systems, Inc. announced the validated integration of its Disk Backup with Deduplication system with Symantec NetBackup via the Symantec OpenStorage (OST) program.

The enhanced integration between ExaGrid and Symantec NetBackup offers joint customers a faster, more powerful, and more easily managed solution for disk backup with data deduplication. This news follows ExaGrid’s recently announced support for Symantec Backup Exec 2010. With this announcement, ExaGrid is the first and only disk-backup appliance vendor to achieve both basic and optimized duplication qualification for both Symantec Backup Exec 2010 and Symantec NetBackup 7.

With the OpenStorage integration,
joint ExaGrid and Symantec customers benefit from:

• Seamless integration between NetBackup and the ExaGrid disk backup system, enabling quick installation
• Unified control and tracking of all copies of data via the NetBackup interface; including copies replicated to disaster recovery sites and tape copies
• Simplified disaster recovery, as NetBackup is aware of all copies of data – both onsite and offsite
• Fast recovery times due to the support of Symantec OST Optimized Duplication feature with ExaGrid’s “Instant-DR” capability
• Short backup windows achieved via ExaGrid’s unique link balancing with OST which intelligently selects the most appropriate and optimized network path for each individual backup job
• Flexibility to retain different amounts of backup data at a local site versus an off-site disaster recovery location, by better utilizing the unique ExaGrid architecture
