New EtherDrive Storage Arrays and HBAs by Coraid

Delivering 10GbE and supporting SATA, SAS, and SSD drives

CORAID, Inc. announced availability for
its new line of CORAID EtherDrive SRX-Series
storage arrays, and unveiled an extended family of host bus adapters
(HBAs) enabling high-speed Ethernet SAN access for Windows, Solaris, and
Linux environments. These new offerings further extend the
price-performance advantage of EtherDrive Ethernet SAN solutions
relative to legacy storage solutions.

EtherDrive SRX3200

Data visualization vendor Tableau Software, ranked by Inc.
Magazine
as one of the 500 fastest growing U.S. companies and one
of the 25 fastest-growing software companies, has deployed EtherDrive
SRX3200 appliances to support high-performance access to enterprise
applications. "Our new, free service Tableau Public has already
helped hundreds of thousands of people all over the world analyze and
publish data visualizations on the web – fast and flexible storage is
fundamental to our mission
," said Jorge Reyes, director of
operations at Tableau Software. "CORAID EtherDrive delivers an
exceptional level of storage performance for us, without the complex
topologies of traditional SAN solutions
."

"CORAID’s approach to storage offers an undeniable price/performance
advantage over traditional SAN implementations
," said Mark Peters,
senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "With the explosive
growth of server virtualization in data centers of all sizes, and the
resulting increased workload that this places on storage, CORAID’s
disruptive economics are sure to gain it considerably more attention
."

CORAID is redefining the fundamental economics of storage with Ethernet
SAN solutions that provide enterprises of all sizes with a flexible tier
of high performance, scale-out storage. CORAID’s breakthrough
EtherDrive storage platform has organically amassed over 1,100
customers, including large enterprise and government organizations,
since its 2005 launch into the Linux market. Using innovative software
with 100-percent commodity hardware and raw Ethernet, EtherDrive storage
arrays enable a scale-out SAN architecture that is ideally suited to
dynamic virtualization and cloud environments. Starting at under $500
per terabyte and scaling to multiple petabytes, EtherDrive delivers a
5-8x price performance advantage over legacy Fibre Channel and iSCSI
solutions, while eliminating layers of complex SAN management.

CORAID EtherDrive Solutions
The new EtherDrive SRX-Series storage appliances support up to six
Gigabit Ethernet or four 10-Gigabit Ethernet connections, enabling
high-performance access for demanding virtualization, cloud and primary
storage applications. In addition, the SRX-Series arrays support SATA,
SAS, and SSD drives in the same chassis, enabling customers to tune
performance for a wide range of workloads. SRX-Series appliances can
deliver more than 500 Megabytes/sec throughput, enabling deployment in
extremely demanding high-performance computing and virtualization
environments.

New SRX appliances include:

  • EtherDrive
    SRX2800
    : 16-drive appliance, 3.5" drives, up to 32TB capacity, 3U
    form factor, dual power supplies
  • EtherDrive
    SRX3200
    : 24-drive appliance, 3.5" drives, up to 48TB capacity, 4U
    form factor, dual power supplies
  • EtherDrive
    SRX3500
    : 24-drive appliance, 2.5" drives, up to 12TB capacity, 2U
    form factor, dual power supplies

CORAID EtherDrive HBAs enable
high-performance, simplified integration of servers into Ethernet SAN
environments. HBAs are available in 2 x 1-Gb Ethernet and 2 x 10-Gb
Ethernet configurations, and multiple HBAs can be deployed in
‘port-flooding’ mode to provide additional throughput and availability
without the need for complex multi-pathing software. Instead of waiting
weeks to re-architect complex SAN topologies, application and
virtualization administrators can simply add more HBAs to address
application throughput bottlenecks.

New HBAs include:

  • Windows: Designed to support multiple versions and
configurations of Windows servers, as well as Hyper-V server
    virtualization environments.
  • Linux: Extends EtherDrive software initiators that have
been available since 2005 in the Linux kernel, adding premium features
and performance. Ideal for Xen server and desktop virtualization
deployments, as well as cloud-based Xen environments.
  • Solaris: Supports Ethernet SAN integration for Solaris and
OpenSolaris environments, enabling use cases including high-performance
    integration with ZFS.

Availability
EtherDrive SRX-Series appliances are available immediately.
New EtherDrive HBAs are planned for availability in Q2’10.
