Sanbolic Melio 2010 Shared Storage Solution
For the dynamic provisioning of XenDesktop and XenApp virtual infrastructures
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 22, 2010 at 3:14 pmSanbolic, Inc.‘s new product, Melio 2010 Data Center, provides a scalable, available shared storage solution for the dynamic provisioning of XenDesktop and XenApp virtual infrastructures.
Using Sanbolic’s software, Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS) can operate in a highly available mode to prevent downtime of virtual machines hosting virtual desktops and servers and SQL Servers can be clustered to provide high availability for the PVS database. With Melio 2010, virtual solutions powered by Provisioning Services can scale quickly and seamlessly and storage management for virtual workloads (VHDs) can be greatly simplified.
Dynamic provisioning is a key feature in the platinum editions of XenServer and XenApp, as well as in the Enterprise and Platinum editions of XenDesktop. Using Melio 2010, physical or virtual Provisioning Servers can share concurrent block-level access to SAN storage containing PVS datastores. Because the Provisioning Servers access the same virtual workloads on a Melio volume, devices hosting virtual desktops or XenApp Servers can failover between Provisioning Servers, minimizing downtime and maximizing user productivity. Sanbolic’s AppCluster software, a component of the Melio 2010 Data Center product suite, facilitates clustering of SQL Servers to provide high availability for the Provisioning Services database in the event that the initial server hosting the database fails unexpectedly.
Melio 2010 Data Center also includes distributed snapshots and policy based snapshot migration capability, offering customers added flexibility for backing up shared volumes containing PVS datastores. In a XenDesktop deployment hosted on Microsoft Hyper-V, Melio 2010 offers a highly scalable shared storage solution for the Hyper-V hypervisors and Provisioning Servers, as well as for user data on the virtual machines.
"Sanbolic is a very important part of our integrated offering based on Citrix technology," said Marco Lorefice, Marketing Manager of Ready Informatica, "but our strategy does not stop at Citrix; we also found Sanbolic as a great technology to approach Microsoft and VMware accounts and resellers."
