Sans Digital Adds Hot-Swappable Redundant Power Supplies

Into its 1U EliteSTOR and EliteNAS

Sans Digital, provider of high performance storage subsystems, is incorporating hot-swappable redundant power supplies into its EliteSTOR and EliteNAS series. A redundant power supply helps to increase the fault tolerance of a storage unit, where data access will not be interrupted by power supply failure.

The design of 1U rackmount limits the amount of space available for redundant hardware. Until present day, redundant power supplies are mostly seen in 2U formats or higher. However, in a data center or mission critical environment, hot-swappable redundant power supply is mandatory to eliminate data access downtime when power supply failures occur. As the demand for redundant power supply in 1U rackmounts increases, Sans Digital not only incorporated this feature into its 1U rackmounts, it was able to do so on a compact 23‰ form factors by shortening the length of the power supplies.

The EliteSTOR ES104X+BR and EliteNAS EN104L+BXR are the Sans Digital 1U rackmounts that utilize redundant power supplies. ES104X+BR is a direct attached storage (DAS) with SATA and SAS interfaces for 1200MB/s of high performance. EN104L+BXR is a network attach storage (NAS) with dual gigabit Ethernet interfaces and Xeon dual core processor, for network clients and iSCSI storage.

Both ES104X+BR and EN104L+BXR are equipped with 300W 1+1 redundant power supply modules. The modules are hot-swappable to allow instant trouble shooting and replacement, to minimize performance downtime. LEDs and mute buttons located on the front panels provide buzzer alert and real time power supply status when failures occur. Optional redundant upgrades will be further introduced to all EliteSTOR and EliteNAS 1U rackmounts in the near future.

"Redundant hardware provides peace of mind for the system administrators by allowing instant failure repair," said Grandy Chen, Sans Digital President. "The EliteSTOR and EliteNAS with redundant power supplies combine high performance and high fault tolerance in a compact 1U form factor, and are available for an additional low cost of $400."

Units are available in both black and silver faceplates: ES104X+R and EN104L+XR.
