Emulex OneConnect 10GbE and FCoE Adapters Available From HP
For select HP ProLiant rack, tower and blade servers
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 5, 2010 at 3:06 pmEmulex Corporation announced that its OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) are available for 10Gb/s Ethernet and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) connectivity for select HP ProLiant rack, tower and blade servers and orderable as HP branded products.
“This announcement with HP is a significant proof point in the maturation and deployment of 10Gb/s Ethernet deployment in the market,” said Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business development, Emulex. “HP is using 10Gb/s Ethernet and FCoE to dramatically improve network performance, optimize virtualization and simplify server and networking infrastructure. Consistent with the aims of HP’s Converged Infrastructure architecture, Emulex is working with HP to deliver standards-based connectivity solutions to customers that work with their existing infrastructure, helping them simultaneously improve performance and reduce costs.”
The Emulex OneConnect UCNA meets HP’s rigorous standards for functionality, quality and commitment to industry standards. The Emulex OneConnect FCoE UCNA allows IT administrators to converge their physical networks, while maintaining their application, server, storage and security administration domains. This allows companies to reduce their operational costs and improve business results. The Emulex OneConnect 10Gb/s Ethernet UCNA allows customers to match their application high bandwidth connectivity requirements with the benefits of industry standard 10Gb/s Ethernet.
Emulex connectivity options include the HP NC550SFP Dual Port 10Gb/s Server Adapter, the HP StorageWorks CN1000E Dual Port Converged Network Adapter (CNA) for HP ProLiant rack and tower servers, and the HP NC550m Dual Port Flex-10 10Gb/s Ethernet Adapter for HP ProLiant blade servers. The HP CN1000E CNA is capable of running 10Gb/s Ethernet and FCoE concurrently and/or independently on any port, allowing both server and storage traffic to run on each port with redundancy available on the second port. The convergence of Ethernet and Fibre Channel in a single adapter offers customers new flexibility for server connectivity while also simplifying their networks.
“Customers can improve business response time by adopting an infrastructure that increases application performance and eliminates configuration complexity,” said Bob Wilson, vice president, Platforms Division, StorageWorks, HP. “Through collaboration with Emulex, the HP StorageWorks CN1000E Converged Network Adapter along with the HP NC550SFP and NC550m Network Interface Controllers utilize 10Gb/s Ethernet technology to deliver increased server and storage network performance that customers can leverage to maintain the data transfer rates that business-critical applications require."
Emulex’s single-chip, high-performance OneConnect UCNA has full hardware protocol offload support for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), iSCSI and FCoE. It has excellent 10Gb/s Ethernet throughput and latency, and the ability to efficiently consolidate network and storage infrastructures without changing management domains. As part of the Emulex vEngine technology, hardware offload and acceleration reduces server overhead and increases the number of virtual machines that can run on virtualized servers.
The HP NC550m Dual Port Flex-10 10Gb/s Ethernet Adapter is used with HP’s 10Gb/s Ethernet blade interconnect options. Because it is enabled with HP Flex-10, it is particularly well suited for BladeSystem customers who want the benefits of HP Virtual Connect for their server edge connectivity. HP Flex-10 allows customers to divide the adapter 10Gb/s ports into up to four physical ports and allocate bandwidth in increments of 100 Mb/s, according to their workload needs.
In addition, The HP CN1000E CNA and Emulex OneConnect UCNAs utilize Emulex’s OneCommand Manager for secure, virtualized, automated and centralized enterprise management for deployment, dynamic provisioning, asset management, virtual I/O services, connectivity management, security, and quality of service for virtualized and converged networking environments.
