IBM TS7680 ProtecTIER De-Dupe Gateway V1.1 Software

The IBM System Storage TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z V1.1 software is part of the IBM System Storage TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z solution – a solution comprised of TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z V1.1 software and TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z (3958-DE2) hardware.

This integrated solution is designed to address the tape processing needs of System z data centers, by helping to improve the data protection infrastructure and by more cost effectively managing and protecting critical customer data. The TS7680 Solution is designed to provide a high degree of scalability and flexibility and in-line deduplication for enterprise environments.

Can contain up to one million virtual tape volumes

Places an enterprise control unit in front of ProtecTIER to provide a FICON tape device interface
Uses the ProtecTIER Gateway cluster for fast, efficient deduplicated backend storage
Uses the availability of the ProtecTIER Gateway to support highly available access to the virtual volumes on disk

IBM intends to offer native IP replication functionality for the IBM System Storage TS7680 ProtecTIER for System z to provide significant bandwidth and associated savings to the customer. This feature will allow users to maintain full copies of the logical volumes at the remote site, while transmitting only unique data that does not already exist in the remote repository.
