Promise to Adopt Jasper Forest
For future storage solutions
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 11, 2010 at 3:10 pmPROMISE Technology, Inc. plans to develop future storage solutions based on the recently available Intel Xeon C5500/C3500 family of processors formerly codenamed ‘Jasper Forest.’
The availability of Intel Xeon processor C5500/C3500 series signals a seminal movement for the storage industry by offering world-class performance, while reducing power consumption and integrating new features needed by many storage applications. Adoption of this family of processors will enable PROMISE to deliver high performance, lower cost and greener storage products which are key in vertical markets including rich media, backup and recovery, mission critical data centers, high resolution medical imaging and processing, high performance computing and other industries requiring less real estate.
"The new Intel Xeon processor C5500/C3500 series is, in our opinion, one of the most significant advancements in the storage industry in the past decade," said Jin-Lon Hon, Vice President of Engineering, PROMISE Technology. "We are extremely pleased to be part of Intel’s ongoing development that promises to deliver tremendous throughput, low latency and high-compute capabilities for the end-user. This is a significant milestone that represents the next generation of innovation and advancement for the storage marketplace."
"Intel tailored the Intel Xeon processor C5500/C3500 series for the storage industry with the integration of key storage features," said Seth Bobroff, general manager, Intel Data Center Group, storage. "Storage providers like PROMISE see the value in improved processing performance, data protection and scalability that we’ve built into this family of Xeon processors."
PROMISE will use the Intel Xeon platform to deliver higher value products with additional software that supports far superior enterprise class features like storage virtualization, replication, unified storage and latest high throughput storage protocols like 6G SAS, 8G FC, 10G iSCSI and FCoE.
PROMISE will deliver on the benefits of the new Intel Xeon processors by providing new storage solutions that offer increased performance per watt, real estate savings, scalability and many other new features important to the embedded, communications and storage markets.
