Transgene Selects Atempo HyperStream Server

Atempo, Inc. announced that biopharmaceutical company Transgene has selected and deployed Atempo’s deduplication module, Atempo HyperStream Server, to optimize its backups and storage resources, achieving outstanding deduplication results.

Transgene is a fully-integrated biopharmaceutical company with offices in the United States and France that designs and develops cutting-edge immunotherapeutic products to treat cancers and chronic infectious diseases. Due to the nature of its business, over 80 percent of Transgene employees work in research and development and production to identify new therapies to treat cancers and chronic infectious diseases. Because the company needed to protect this research data at all times, Transgene’s IT department had previously implemented Atempo Time Navigator to secure the servers hosting all high-value data.

In an effort to streamline its backups and optimize its storage resources, Transgene recently deployed Atempo HyperStream Server, a block-level data deduplication module. This solution is installed on the backup server, an HP DL 380 bi-processor quad core with 12 GB of RAM. The Atempo Time Navigator backup server running Linux protects all the production data, equivalent to over 20 VMware servers hosted on an EMC CX3 SAN with a volume of 5 TB located in Transgene’s data center, over four miles from corporate headquarters. Since implementing the deduplication module, Transgene has experienced phenomenal deduplication rates, not only optimizing the storage resources but also the bandwidth required for backups. For example, daily backups of 330 GB of research data from Transgene’s OpenText server shrink to under 500 MB after deduplication. Similarly, daily backups of 400 GB of data from their email server shrink to 1 GB after deduplication.

Transgene deployed Atempo HyperStream Server in close collaboration with CHEOPS TECHNOLOGY, an Atempo Certified system integrator. CHEOPS TECHNOLOGY is a long-standing Atempo partner with deep expertise in both high-availability storage and Atempo data protection solutions. The implementation was carried out in two days.
