Synology DiskStation Manager 2.3 Beta
Including backup to the cloud with Amazon S3 and live view Surveillance iPhone app
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 1, 2010 at 3:39 pmSynology America Corp. announced the release of DiskStation Manager 2.3 beta which introduces new features for business and home users including backup to the cloud with Amazon S3, easy Volume Manager, live view of Surveillance Station with DS cam iPhone app and many more features and enhancements.
“The release of the new Synology DSM 2.3 beta builds upon the already successful DiskStation Manager 2.2 by adding additional enhancements to the simple to use interface and more integrated applications,” says Doug Self, product specialist at Synology America Corp. “We continuously listen to our customers and their feedback and the new iPhone app DS cam is one example of responding to that feedback. We’ve added a new iPhone app so that Surveillance Station users can now live view their IP camera streams directly on their iPhone wherever they are. This is great to use when you are on the road and want to keep an eye on important things like a company warehouse or a even new babysitter at home,” adds Self.
Additional new features include the new Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) that simplifies the RAID setup by optimizing the disk capacities with data protection when different sized hard drives are used. The new SHR eliminates the worry about buying hard drives of different capacity at different times when using RAID on their DiskStation because it can be automatically setup through SHR with a few clicks of the mouse.
The new Synology Volume Manager ensures that no matter when you buy hard drives or what sizes they are, you will always have the most optimal configuration of your storage capacity. It’s a very easy wizard that takes a few moments to setup and instantly you have your volumes maximized across the DiskStation. Pair the Volume Manager with the new SHR and even users with very basic knowledge will be able to get the most optimal setup and protection of their disks.
For users who are not as familiar with configuring routers, the new EZ-Internet Wizard will make the process of setting up access to the DiskStation from the Internet much easier. The wizard steps through all the settings including firewall settings, PPPoE setup or DDNS registration, and even router port forwarding configuration is taken care of by the wizard.
Enhanced backup features ensure that critical data is always safeguarded. AES 256-bit shared folder encryption is supported to ensure data security. In addition to ‘shared folders,’ sub-folder backup is now supported and for additional backup options, now Synology DiskStations can backup to the cloud using Amazon S3 service with the easy to use integrated settings in the DSM 2.3 beta.
Existing applications receive a makeover in DSM 2.3 that add many new enhancements to File Station, Surveillance Station, Photo Station, and Audio Station. The entire experience of Synology DiskStations just got better with DSM 2.3 and best of all, DSM 2.3 is a free upgrade to existing Synology customers for series 7 models and above.
