GreenBytes GB-X De-Dupe Appliances Qualified for NetBackup
With Symantec OpenStorage technology
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 1, 2010 at 3:38 pmGreenBytes, Inc. announced that the company’s GB-X Series deduplication storage appliances have been qualified for use with NetBackup through the Symantec OpenStorage Technology (OST) program.
By using GreenBytes’ GB-X Series storage appliances in combination with Symantec OST, users will be able to fully enjoy the integrated deduplication capabilities of the GB-X Series along with the performance, scalability and ease-of-use that GreenBytes’ appliances offer, providing a complete storage solution designed to deliver the lowest TCO and highest ROI for enterprises of any size.
GreenBytes and Symantec customers benefit from the OST integration by utilizing the NetBackup interface, which provides a single point of management for all data protection operations. This integration allows users to manage end-end client/server backups and electronic vaulting DR (disaster recovery) copies off-site. While leveraging the NetBackup management interface, customers will also realize significant performance gains, reduced backup times, enhanced data reduction, and off-host replication copies, while maintaining NetBackup catalog awareness for all copies.
GreenBytes’ intelligent power management capabilities automatically put a subset of drives into a lower power state and keeps only the necessary drives active to offer storage appliances with unparalleled power efficiency. GB-X Series appliances are also completely administrated from Microsoft Management Console (MMC) using custom plug-ins to enable simple administration of even the most complex data storage scenarios.
“Deduplication is a feature that drives real value for Symantec’s enterprise customers,” said Brian Dye, vice president of product management for Enterprise Information Management Group, Symantec. “We were impressed by GreenBytes’ extraordinary deduplication capabilities and power savings and are pleased to qualify the GB-X Series for use with our industry leading NetBackup software as part of the OpenStorage Technology program.”
GB-X Series appliances dramatically boost storage and deduplication performance by incorporating native inline deduplication into the enterprise-scale GreenBytes File System (GBFS) to permit real-time, on-the-fly deduplication of file blocks as they are stored. The GB-X Series’ GB-2000 and GB-4000 appliances, the first available in the line, feature state-of-the-art 2.5-inch enterprise class disks and are easily and efficiently scalable, with the GB-2000 ranging from 12 TB up to 120 TB and GB-4000 offering a 24 TB base that can be scaled up to 432 TB.
“GreenBytes undertook an intensive R&D effort to create storage solutions that offer energy efficiency, high-performance, ease-of-use and scalability, all in a cost-effective package that could not be matched by any other in the industry,” said Bob Petrocelli, chief executive officer of GreenBytes. “Receiving this product qualification from Symantec truly validates our efforts, and we are pleased that NetBackup customers will now be able to take advantage of the enhanced deduplication benefits and strong integration with NetBackup that GreenBytes has to offer.”
