ExaGrid Validated With Symantec Backup Exec 2010

For de-dupe

ExaGrid Systems, Inc. announced the validated integration of its Disk Backup with Deduplication system with Symantec Backup Exec 2010 via the Symantec OpenStorage Technology (OST) program. ExaGrid is the first and only disk-backup appliance vendor to achieve Optimized Duplication qualification for Symantec Backup Exec, providing joint customers a faster, more powerful, and more easily managed solution for disk backup with data deduplication.

With Symantec OpenStorage integration,
joint ExaGrid and Symantec customers benefit from:

  • Seamless integration between Backup Exec and the ExaGrid disk backup system
  • Unified control and tracking of all copies of data via the Backup Exec interface – including copies replicated to disaster recovery sites and tape copies
  • Simplified disaster recovery, as Backup Exec is already aware of all copies of data and individually tracks retention periods for each copy
  • Fast recovery times due to the combination of Backup Exec and ExaGrid ‘Instant-DR’ capability
  • Short backup window, by load balancing across Backup Exec media servers into the ExaGrid System
  • Flexibility to retain different amounts of backup data at a local site versus an off-site disaster recovery location, by better utilizing the unique ExaGrid architecture

ExaGrid continues to hear from organizations that they want the full benefits of disk in terms of performance, scalability and ease-of-use,” said Marc Crespi, vice president of product management, ExaGrid Systems, Inc. “Through its OpenStorage Technology program, Symantec is the first and only backup software provider to support advanced features for offsite data storage when utilizing disk-based backup with deduplication.  ExaGrid is pleased to be the only disk-based backup vendor qualified for both basic and optimized duplication with Backup Exec via OpenStorage.

We’ve had extremely positive experiences managing our backups with both ExaGrid’s disk backup system and Symantec’s backup software,” said Michael Hoke, Network Engineer, Christian Broadcasting Network. “ExaGrid and Symantec provide high levels of interoperability that make our backups a breeze, and we look forward to benefiting from the enhanced functionality and performance through this new level of integration.

We are pleased to have ExaGrid as a member of the Symantec OpenStorage partner community,” said Pat Hanavan, vice president of product management, Symantec Information Management Group. “We believe the collaboration between the two companies has resulted in a valuable feature-set to our mutual customers, and ExaGrid continues to prove its technology leadership position by being the first and only disk-based backup vendor to achieve optimized duplication qualification.”
