Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione Purchases Two Xiotech Emprise 7000

Improving ROI and reducing administrator workloads

Xiotech Corporation announced that Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the country, purchased two Emprise 7000 Edge storage systems powered by Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) technology. Brinks expects the Emprise storage area networks (SANs) will reduce its network management time by more than 30 percent due to the systems’ intuitive ICON Manager user interface and self-healing ISE technology, while also providing it with a full return on investment in just three years.

Earlier this year, Brinks determined it was time to replace its legacy storage system to improve the operational performance of its IT network and the management of its storage infrastructure. It also wanted a more efficient way to recover data from users inadvertently deleting a file from a server or a personal computer. It determined the Emprise 7000 Edge was the best storage solution for its needs and purchased two systems.

"Emprise 7000 Edge provided us with the best overall value compared to other vendors we evaluated," said Scott Jager, director of information services at Brinks. "With the system’s ISE technology and ICON Manager, we plan to reduce our network management time by 30 percent to 50 percent, and we can forget about network downtime altogether. Plus, we can now roll back the clock easily and recover data in minutes."

For further savings, the firm sought to eliminate the time intensive process of replacing failed disk drives. With Emprise 7000 Edge, the disk drives are enclosed inside two DataPacs, and are capable of running self-diagnostic and restoration processes if an error occurs.

In addition to improving its data availability for its legal team and reducing network management for its IT administrators, Brinks has been able to make the most of the ISE technology’s five-year hardware warranty.

"We expect to realize a full return on our investment within three years, and with Emprise 7000 Edge’s five-year warranty, we’ll have zero maintenance fees or capital expenditures in years four and five," concludes Jager. "Xiotech’s ability to help us achieve this kind of ROI is unmatched in the industry today."

Introduced in May 2009, Emprise 7000 Edge supports up to 10 ISE (1,024 terabytes), is managed by a single controller and comes with an industry-exclusive five-year hardware warranty. It includes capabilities such as Web Services-based storage management via ICON Manager, simplified provisioning and management of storage in virtualized server environments via Virtual View, a distributed cluster architecture, Intelligent Provisioning and a suite of data replication solutions.
