The virtualized storage architecture of the HP EVA is playing an important role as Global Crossing implements collaboration technologies across its internal, company-wide operations. The EVA offers an easy-to-use management interface so Global Crossing can quickly assign available storage space as business needs change. It also adds elasticity to Global Crossing’s technology environment by helping consolidate underutilized storage capacity. These features significantly reduce management complexity, which lowers costs and frees up administrative time.

To support the company’s unified communications strategy, the HP EVA is managing the storage needs of more than 5,000 internal mailboxes that offer up to 1 gigabyte of storage each. The EVA’s virtualization capabilities also support Global Crossing’s server virtualization and SAN strategies.

Lastly, the HP EVA features HP StorageWorks Business Copy EVA software, which improves data recovery and availability, enabling Global Crossing to ensure critical information is always accessible through local replication and specialized backup.

To deliver the highest quality of customer service to our own employees, we needed a solution that improved storage efficiency and utilization with proven reliability to support deployment of our unified communication platform, as well as other internal enterprise-critical applications and services,” said Gerald Carr, director, Technical Architecture and Strategy, Global Crossing. “Since 2007, our storage requirements have grown significantly year over year. The HP EVA enables us to scale our storage as needed, simplify operations and reduce risks, while staying on track with our computing infrastructure improvement efforts and consolidating our physical infrastructure and environment in our corporate data centers.”

Global Crossing selected the HP EVA following a rigorous evaluation and testing process. The EVA delivered the business continuity, cost savings and disaster recovery capabilities required by Global Crossing’s internal IT operations to achieve business objectives today and in the future.

In addition to HP StorageWorks solutions, Global Crossing relies on other HP hardware to drive business results, including several HP ProLiant DL380 servers as well as HP BladeSystem c-Class server blades.
