St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center Selects Comport
For unified medical image archiving, with HP EVA
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 18, 2009 at 3:06 pmComport Consulting Corp. has partnered with St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, a 641-bed academic tertiary facility in Paterson, NJ, to design and implement a unified storage solution for its medical image archiving applications.
The new system replaces multiple proprietary silo storage systems and is designed to optimize cost-effective storage, management, and retrieval of the hospital’s patient image studies.
Comport, an Elite HP Platinum Business Partner, has been recognized for its in-depth understanding of health care solutions, particularly the design and implementation of Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA), medical image archiving, and EMR archiving. These solutions provide cost-effective ingestion and retrieval of digital images and documents, while providing the redundancy and compliance protections required by HIPAA.
In order to increase patient data availability in the event of an outage or disaster as well as the reliability of retrieving patient images, St. Joseph’s sought a redundant system for its long-term medical image archiving as part of their PACS application replacement. The HP Medical Archiving System (HP MAS), along with an HP Enterprise Virtual Array Storage Area Network (EVA SAN), was selected after a competitive evaluation, due to simplicity, speed of image retrieval, and lower operational and add-on costs.
"Our design and implementation were provided by Comport, and I give them a lot of credit. It all proceeded flawlessly – within budget and under the time we expected," stated Jim Cavanagh, St. Joseph’s CIO. "We now access images in seconds, not to mention that we saved about 60% in storage costs."
Jack Margossian, Comport’s CEO, said: "We understand the business problems that disparate systems and silos of equipment and data can produce. Our medical image archiving solution for St. Joseph’s provides a strategy for the entire enterprise. The benefits are quickly extending from the initial radiology implementation into their other departments. This has calmed down the upward spiral in capital and operational costs, which we are very proud to be part of."
