Disk Array Solution With Both (!) RAID-1 and RAID-5
InTANK iR2940-6S-S2D from Raidon
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 14, 2009 at 3:28 pmRAIDON Technology, Inc.‘s InTANK iR2940-6S-S2D has been launched. Specially designed for SMEs MIS, workstations and monitoring system, iR2940 supports both RAID 1 and RAID 5 which is able to store O.S. and application data separately in order to avoid any system crush or data loss caused by HDD failure.
InTANK iR2940 takes only 3 x CD-ROM space to install, possessing 2×2.5" HDDs with RAID-1 and 4×3.5" HDDs with RAID-5 which allows users to store O.S. and application data separately, offering the demand for people who are in needs of different data protection levels. iR2940 not only keeps O.S. running constantly but also avoids data loss caused by HDD failure.
The RAID 1 function inherits from RAIDON’s tradition of high-quality concept which uses RAIDON self-developed SR2045 chip that supports single hard disk maximum capacity up to 750GB. With the simple push-up ejection tray design allows users to install hard drives easily without any tools and complicated installation steps; With regard to RAID 5 function, iR2940 uses JM393 chip which supports RAID-0/1/3/10/Clone/Large and the maximum total capacity is up to 8TB. With its easy tray design allows users to switch HDDs easily during operation! Meanwhile, iR2940 has two independent SATA ports for each RAID-1 & RAD-5 as transmission so that the O.S. and data access do not interfere with each other.
InTANK iR2940 has two sets of 6 cm cooling fans, even in the airtight operating environment that can still effectively assist the heat dissipation to avoid system crash problem caused by overheating. Besides the LED lights on the body, iR2940 can also monitor the system status through RAID Guide Software under Windows system to keep a normal operation whenever necessary.
iR2940-6S-S2D Product Specifications:

It's difficult to expect a more reliable storage subsystem than this InTANK iR2940 with two independent disk arrays, one in RAID-5 and the other one in RAID-1. Here, with this innovative idea, Raidon proposed to store OS and application separately on each disk array.
But, if the prices of HDDs continue decrease, we can imagine more secure and faster configurations, for example with one RAID-3 for all the data and another one just mirroring it.
An interesting architecture could also be two mirrored RAID-6. In this case, you can recover your information if two HDDs failed on the first array, and two other ones on the second RAID. And more than that, if a third one or all the disk drives of the first RAID-6 failed, you can continue to work on the supplementary RAID-6. With a total of six drives into the primary RAID-6, you could support the simultaneous failure of eight of the total of twelve rotating devices.
