HDS Selects QLogic
For 8Gb FC switches and 10GbE iSCSI routers
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 10, 2009 at 3:07 pmQLogic Corp. announced that QLogic 5802V 8Gb Fibre Channel switches and iSR6250 10GbE Intelligent Storage Routers are now available from Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., and over 500 authorized Hitachi Data Systems resellers worldwide.
The switches and routers are qualified and fully interoperable with Hitachi’s comprehensive portfolio of storage systems, including the flagship Hitachi Universal Storage Platform (USP) V and the channel-optimized, midrange Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 family.
As Nehalem-based servers begin to drive higher adoption rates of virtualization, there is a commensurate increase in customer demand for higher bandwidth connectivity options. With QLogic’s new 8Gb Fibre Channel switches, Hitachi is poised to address these increasing bandwidth requirements across both enterprise data centers and SMBs with Fibre Channel switches that are renowned for their quality, reliability and unparalleled performance in content-rich environments.
With the increasing prevalence of iSCSI-based VMware environments, QLogic 6000 Series Intelligent Storage Routers enable customers to utilize existing hardware and initiate an aggressive VMware strategy with minimal change in Fibre Channel storage infrastructure, providing better leverage on existing Fibre Channel assets in VMware environments. The 6000 Series provides unified, multi-protocol connectivity across all Hitachi storage platforms, making Hitachi storage ideal for large-scale server virtualization projects. QLogic 6000 Series routers with 10GbE iSCSI storage ports and initiator virtualization capabilities also make it possible for over 1,000 Virtual Machines (VMs) to directly manage their own storage on a single Hitachi AMS platform. Additionally, 6000 Series routers enable Hitachi to provide its customers with a high-performance, long-distance data migration solution that complements the strengths of Hitachi’s storage platforms.
“These latest QLogic networking solutions expand the breadth and depth of our networking portfolio and deliver the industry-leading technology and ROI that customers expect from Hitachi Data Systems,” said Asim Zaheer, vice president, Corporate and Product Marketing, Hitachi Data Systems. “Fully qualified with our enterprise-class and midrange storage systems, QLogic’s latest switches and routers provide an affordable, innovative means for large enterprises and midrange organizations dealing with real-time video editing and content management to maximize their storage resources and do more with existing budgets.”
“QLogic’s newest switches and routers are designed with the intelligent, value-conscious IT buyer in mind,” said Scott Genereux, senior vice president, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, QLogic. “With an open and technically elegant architecture that ensures complete interoperability with existing Fibre Channel switches, QLogic switches help businesses of all sizes make the most of their storage resources. From the small business implementing its first storage network to larger companies that require the unique scalability of the world’s only 8Gb Fibre Channel stackable switch; to organizations that need a means to connect their Ethernet-based servers to their Hitachi Fibre Channel storage investments, QLogic provides Hitachi customers with complete flexibility.”
“QLogic has great switching technology at best-in-class pricing,” said Steve Duplessie, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “One-time management costs and simplified operations make this a no-brainer deal for HDS customers.”
