This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 9, 2009 at 3:09 pmGlassHouse Technologies has acquired Zurich-based information management consulting company vcare Infosystems AG.
In addition to its storage and backup expertise, the acquisition extends GlassHouse’s offerings into email and document archiving and provides a substantial presence in mainland Europe.
Founded in 2001 as PROACT Datasystems, part of the Swedish PROACT IT group, the Swiss management team executed a management buyout in 2004 and later changed the company name to vcare Infosystems. vcare has offices in Zurich, Switzerland, and Munich, Germany, and offers information management services in storage, backup and data archiving. Within their archiving services and solutions, the vcare team has developed unique intellectual property (IP) to support tools for Symantec, Data Domain and NetApp products.
vcare’s customer list includes some of Switzerland’s largest companies as well as familiar household brands in both Germany and Switzerland, such as BASF, Credit Suisse, Lufthansa, Barclays Bank, Alfred Kärcher (or Stihl) and Swisscom.
“vcare offers their customers the same high quality services and depth of expertise that GlassHouse has brought to market in the US, UK and Middle East. Now we have the ability to deliver our services through a talented team in Switzerland and Germany,” said Mark Shirman, president and CEO of GlassHouse Technologies. “The expansion into mainland Europe is important to our continued growth, and vcare brings new capabilities in data archiving to our company. We are very pleased to be adding this expertise, as well as the professionals that make it happen, to the GlassHouse family.”
vcare will be integrated into GlassHouse’s existing organization, increasing GlassHouse’s total number of employees to over 550 worldwide. The existing vcare management team of Stephen Schneider, Thomas Madsen and Michael Eder will continue to run the Swiss-based operations.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to expand our global market reach,” said Stephan Schneider, vcare Managing Director. “By joining GlassHouse, we are creating a more expansive set of infrastructure services to offer our clients and are now part of a growing company with worldwide resources.”
