Veriam With Consumer Version of SurErase Disk Erase Product
For $30
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 19, 2009 at 3:45 pmVeriam Technologies, Inc., a data and identity protection software company, announced availability of its SurErase Pro software, which allows consumers and small/home businesses to easily and reliably erase hard drives and other recordable media.
SurErase User-Friendly Disk Erase
The new SurErase application brings to consumers an easy-to-use software program that has previously only been available to large customers and enterprises. It applies technology currently being used by major corporations to reliably remove customer and business data from PCs and servers prior to repurposing. In this new consumer-focused offering, SurErase provides to consumers the ability to do a high-grade disk wipe that meets the Federal Government’s security standards as well as the standards of leading technology companies. A further and unique advantage of SurErase is that it captures a snapshot of a system’s configuration that allows the customer to print reports for tax records, to support the resale of the computer, or to provide evidence of the erase at a later date.
"Our technology is the software equivalent to taking a sledge hammer to your hard drive", states Veriam CEO Jim Boyle, "except that with the sledge hammer method, you can’t reuse the PC and the resale/donation value decreases dramatically. It’s also much easier than smashing the hard drive because SurErase requires no Windows® installation, which can be very frustrating for typical users."
"Identity theft continues to grow and the thieves have become more sophisticated in the ways that they acquire personal information," adds Jim Basara, Veriam COO, a long time veteran of identity management and protection. "There have been too many cases of personal information being compromised through a used computer that was donated or sold on eBay. We wanted to fix that problem with a solution that is simple to use, even for a novice."
Another important focus for Veriam was to help customers who have old computers stored in their garages or basements. Jim Boyle explains: "During our research, we found that many consumers have old computers in their garages, in the corners of their offices, or propping open a door that they have been afraid to dispose of due to the fear of compromising personal data. We wanted to create a product that would work even if the operating system is no longer functioning, as well was one that will work without Internet access."
SurErase Pro is a self-contained disk erase product that does not require a working operating system on the PC.
SurErase Pro is available immediately at the product’s web site. The product will be available through resellers in the near future.
