IBM XIV Now Supports Asynchronous Mirroring

And non-disruptive code load

IBM XIV Storage System Software V10.2 is now available with support for asynchronous mirroring, as well as support for an instant space reclamation capability.

Additionally, non-disruptive code load is also supported. This became available in IBM XIV Storage System Software V10.1 which was released earlier this year.

The XIV asynchronous mirroring function enables data replication over extended distances between two sites. Asynchronous mirroring complements the XIV synchronous mirroring function which was already available. Both provide solutions for business continuity and disaster recovery.

A new instant space capability enhances the existing XIV Thin Provisioning space reclamation capability. The new capability is designed to enable XIV users to optimize capacity utilization, thus saving costs, by allowing supporting applications, such as Symantec’s Veritas Storage Foundation product, to instantly regain unused file system space in thin-provisioned XIV volumes.

Non-disruptive code load is designed to enable you to update the system software from V10.1 to follow-on versions without necessitating storage system downtime or outages to host-based applications.

IBM XIV Storage System Software V10.2 also continues to support the same functionality previously included in IBM XIV Storage System Software V10.0 and uses the same product ID (5639-XXA).

Key prerequisites
Initial orders of IBM XIV Storage System Software V10.2 require a co-order of a validly configured IBM XIV Storage System 2810 or 2812 Model A14. Refer to the Hardware requirements and sections.
