Unigen to Manufacture Enterprise SSDs

Based on SandForce processors

Unigen Corporation, designer and manufacturer of memory, flash and wireless modules, is joining forces with SandForce, Inc., and will manufacture NAND Flash-based Enterprise SSDs (Solid State Drives) based on the SandForce SF-1000 Processor Family.

"The synergies between both companies make perfect sense in this collaboration. Unigen is experienced in the manufacturing of SSDs while SandForce is focused on introducing breakthrough SSD Processors for mainstream Enterprise storage solutions," said Paul W. Heng, President and CEO of Unigen Corporation.

Unigen plans to offer SSDs based on both the SandForce SF-1500 and SF-1200 SSD Processors with a product portfolio that delivers feature and performance leadership across a range of categories. These products will provide optimal storage media solutions in terms of reliability, performance, and power efficiency for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the server, storage, networking and industrial segments.

The new low-power Unigen Enterprise SSDs will come in standard 2.5-inch form factors with both 3Gb/s SATA, and 6Gb/s SAS interfaces. The SSDs will be available in capacities ranging from 32GB to 512GB.

"Unigen’s excellence in manufacturing, quality, outstanding testing capabilities and customer relationships positions them to become a leading supplier of high quality Enterprise SSDs for the premier OEM market, and we are excited to support Unigen as an adopter of the SandForce technology," said Thad Omura, VP of Marketing at SandForce.
