Brocade Into Wireless LAN

With Motorola

Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. and the Enterprise Mobility Solutions business unit of Motorola, Inc. announced a strategic agreement to collaborate on wireless LAN (WLAN), voice-over-WLAN, mobile unified communications/fixed mobile convergence (FMC), cloud computing and wireless broadband technologies.

By bringing together two industry leaders, this collaboration will enable customers to leverage best-in-class, end-to-end solutions to help accelerate business growth, simplify network operations, and increase productivity.

Working together, Brocade and Motorola can develop and deliver industry-leading integrated wired and wireless solutions,” said Michael Klayko, chief executive officer, Brocade. “This clearly is an area of increasing importance to our customers as businesses continue to upgrade their network infrastructures to meet the demands of a mobile workforce who require ubiquitous access to any application, from anywhere at any time.”

The companies established an OEM reseller agreement, through which, Brocade will rebrand and resell a number of Motorola’s enterprise wireless LAN solutions and resell Motorola wireless security products as an extension of its own IP/Ethernet product portfolio.

Motorola looks forward to working closely with Brocade to meet the evolving networking and mobility needs of customers,” said Gene Delaney, president, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions. “The relationship opens the opportunity to offer the highest performance end-to-end wired and wireless business network solutions. Brocade’s strong IP/Ethernet brand recognition and existing routes to market give both us and our customers the opportunity for growth.”

The strategic collaboration will enable the integration of Motorola’s core wireless LAN technologies and Brocade’s high performance wired networking technologies to deliver unified management of wired and wireless infrastructures. Motorola’s AirDefense security suite will also be integrated to provide the benefits of advanced Intrusion Prevention and security policy enforcement for wired and wireless networks. This collaboration also lays the foundation for a new category of wireless and mobility services delivered by service providers using cloud enabled infrastructure solutions from Motorola and Brocade.

The Wireless LAN Managed Services Opportunity
The vision behind the Brocade and Motorola collaborative effort is to revolutionize the deployment and management of enterprise mobility solutions through the use of cloud computing architectures and enable voice, video and data applications to work over any network – whether 3G, 4G or WiFi. Cloud computing architectures in this context leverages highly-scalable, secure next generation wireless networking solutions and ultra-high-performance wired networking, storage and computing platforms.

Cloud computing has the potential to enable service providers to put broad categories of IT within reach to organizations that previously could neither afford to purchase or manage enterprise IT and for enterprises to significantly reduce the complexity of large-scale and distributed wireless networking solutions.
