Alex Giakoumis Senior Director, Technical Marketing, at Lasercard

He was member of the Smart Card Alliance executive board from 2000 to 2006.

LaserCard Corporation has appointed Alex Giakoumis as Senior Director, Technical Marketing. In this new role, Giakoumis will be responsible for developing marketing initiatives that address the growing international demand for secure ID credentials incorporating customized combinations of secure machine readable technologies.

lasercard_alex_giakoumis Giakoumis joins LaserCard with over 20 years of international marketing and business development experience in the smart card industry and was a Member of the Smart Card Alliance’s Executive Board from 2000 to 2006. He brings extensive knowledge of programs and partnerships in digital ID security including government and commercial projects covering smart cards, secure personal identification, e-passports, and driver licenses. He was Vice President Marketing, Security & Smart Card Business, at SST; Director, Corporate Business Development at Atmel; Managing Director, Secure Microcontroller & Smart card ICs BU at Atmel; Vice President of Strategic Marketing at Solaic Smart Cards; and General Manager, Payment Systems & Cards at Sligos; after education at education Southern Methodist University and University of Cambridge.

In response to market demand, LaserCard has developed a stream of new processes and capabilities allowing it to combine optical media with commonly used machine-readable technologies such as barcodes, optical character recognition, contact and contactless chips, RFID tags and magnetic stripes. This flexibility allows customers to select any single technology or specify a customized combination that takes advantage of installed bases of these machine-readable technologies while capitalizing on the optical media for visual authentication and ID verification, counterfeit resistance and secure, portable data storage.
