Iron Mountain Opens Its Archive Services Platform

For developers and ISVs

Iron Mountain Incorporated is extending its Archive Services Platform to application providers, including corporate developers and independent software vendors (ISVs), so that they may offer cloud storage with their applications. Through the new Iron Mountain Developer Program, the Company will offer developers the tools and resources necessary to integrate Iron Mountain’s secure enterprise-class cloud archiving services.

Developers can now leverage the security and scalability of Iron Mountain’s Storage-as-a-Service model to allow their users to reduce the risk, cost and complexity of managing their digital information. This is the first time the Company has extended its enterprise archiving platform to outside application developers, and beyond its own backup and archive solutions.

The Developer Program offers application developers seamless integration with Iron Mountain’s Archive Services Platform through an application programming interface (API) that provides secure, off-site long-term data storage for data-intensive applications, as well as advanced indexing, search and retrieval capabilities and retention and destruction functionality.

The cloud is bursting with companies eager to deliver storage services to business customers. Success will require a lot more than a simple API and a bucket of storage on the remote end of a wire,” said Jeff Boles, senior analyst and director of validation services for the Taneja Group. “With this in mind, Iron Mountain realizes they have a distinct advantage when it comes to serving up storage in the cloud, and we see them steadily marching forward in weaving all of their digital information management and service capabilities together into a rich service that is well aligned to the needs of the business.”

Upon joining Iron Mountain’s Developer Program, application providers can take advantage of the Company’s Archive Services Platform API to meet end users’ challenges when it comes to storing and protecting the large amounts of data generated by their applications.

Key features of the Archive Services Platform include:

  • SOAP and REST Web services interfaces that allow for easy integration with data-intensive applications
  • Standard NFS and CIFS interfaces in addition to the API
  • Easy-to-use indexing, search, and retrieval capabilities, with optional retention and destruction functionality
  • Scalability to petabyte volumes to meet changing archiving demands
  • Best-in-class service and support
  • Secure, reliable cloud storage from the trusted leader in enterprise Storage-as-a-Service solutions

Applications providers, including Rescentris and ZL Technologies, are already taking advantage of Iron Mountain’s Developer Program.

In the electronic lab notebook systems and scientific content management arena, secure data archiving is critical due to the highly-regulated nature of life sciences,” said Jeff Spitzner, Ph.D., president and chief science officer for Rescentris. “For the long-term records preservation our industry demands, Iron Mountain was the obvious partner. We turned to Iron Mountain to enhance our solutions with trusted archiving services that provide the security, compliance, and access to information that our customers require.”

As a trusted provider of email and file archiving for large enterprises, ZL requires dependable and scalable archiving storage services. Iron Mountain provides exactly that, with a heavy emphasis on enterprise security,” said Kon Leong, president and chief executive officer of ZL Technologies. “The combination of Iron Mountain’s reliability with ZL’s unified archiving, search and retrieval capabilities ensures that large enterprise customers can immediately access all relevant business information across the entire enterprise, whenever they need it.”

In an increasingly digital world, everyone is challenged with properly storing, protecting and managing the information they input into applications. With the launch of our Developer Program, application providers can extend the same security and reliability that Iron Mountain provides to its enterprise customers to their own end users, giving them ultimate trust in their solution,” said John Clancy, president, Iron Mountain Digital. “Not only will members of the program receive tools and support to integrate our Archive Services Platform with their applications via the API, but they will also be able to offer their customers tremendous incremental value in new information management functionality.

As part of the introduction of its Developer Program, Iron Mountain has also launched the Developer Network, an online community that provides application providers with the tools, information, online support and forums necessary to successfully integrate with Iron Mountain’s Archive Services Platform.
